Hello all,

Just been reading some old US threads on clutch stoppers.

Does anyone have experience of using them?

And where could i get hold of one for an e90?

I had one on my 335i but since upgrading my clutch which has a much lower biting point, I've removed it. I did prefer the car with the stop in place but it does take a little getting used to.

Tricky on the stop/start diesels as the activation switch is lower than the clutch biting point so you need to put it right down on the floor (on mine anyway).

had one on my e36 and was very happy with it.

I though the auto-stop/start switch would be the same point as the normal engine start switch? The normal start switch is below the biting point too.

I have a BMS clutch stop, if you set it too high then you can't start the engine, so you'll soon know.

Had to use 2 of the 3 spacers provided, if i fitted all the spacers I couldn't start the car.

Thats useful to know, I tried my e36 one on the car but couldn't use it!

Just got one of the BMS ones from ebay delivered for $12 (£7.60)
That's half the price the UK distributor is charging!

But BMS themselves only charge $10 inc shipped to anywhere in the world, better from them than fleebay?

That was from the BMSDIRECT ebay shop. Could of saved myself $2 using their site then!

for $10 no harm in giving it a go then, must add at least a few bhp right?

I'm using the BMS with 1 spacer. I had it on 2 but after a good run I had to really push down hard on the clutch to get the car to start so using 1 spacer and no problems.

BMS with 2 spacers.

With 3 on it wouldn't start every time. Although even when it did start with 3 spacers, you could still select gears fine, so it was still fully released OK.

After reading a couple of threads on this I thought I'd get one - cant go wrong for £6.

Fitted it tonight - took prob 30 secs to do, very easy. Left it at the default 3 rings as my car has only 6K on the clock so clutch not that worn.

Driving it - to be honest I couldnt tell a vast amount of difference, just a little less clutch travel so gear changes are marginally faster - but you're only talking about 1 and half inches. Its worth the £6..................but thats all.
