Question ppk 2 radiator?

Im looking into cooling options does the PPK2 radiator really make a difference? Will my time and money be better spent going for an ER oil cooler setup etc?

AT or MT? What is the intended use of the car?

I wondered this too, I saw an aftermarket radiator on **********s.com for not a bad price.

Anybody think an upgraded radiator would be much better than stock?

the upgraded radiators are only for MT... So us the AT or DCT guys are out of luck.

I would gave JB4's max cool mode a try if you worry about water temperature. It puts the water pumps and radiator fan at max. speed, and I haven't managed to hit limp mode once at the track (road course) this year (and no, I don't drive like a pussy). But again, the weather at midwest is usually pretty mild during track season. You really don't need additional cooling for 1/4 mile unless your track is super hot.

The PPK radiator should work to certain degree, considering how well the small stock oil cooler works comparing to early 335i that doesn't have one. Personally, I am planning just to get the coolant hoses and drop in a bigger setrab core for the aux radiator for the next season.

Ummm, the N54B30TO cars ie the 1M, 335is, and Z435IS already come with the PPK Larger Radiator, Larger Fan and an additional radiator and their own "exclusive" DME which not even the cars upgrading to the PPK get.

Different part numbers for the radiator. The MT and DCT cars share the same larger radiator.

Just a little note here, the radiator on the 335is is the same as what is installed on the regular 335i (17117558480 or 17117547059 as shown by your links there). The DME hardware is also the same (P/N 12148619751). The 335is basically has the PPK2 hardware installed from the factory with a different tune being run. The main difference between a 335is and a 335i with the PPK2 installed is the programming in the DME which allows the overboost function (I am, of course, referring to engine specifically here. I realize the 335is was available with the 7DCT as well as some other upgraded components to deal with the added torque like motor mounts and clutch in 6MT).

You can upgrade the seconday radiator. A thicker rad will do the job and still use the orginal connections

There is some other company that make a thicker primary radiator also for our cars also, forgot who it was, i saw it floating around here somewhere

Mishimoto has a drop in 30% thicker core. It should fit MT/DCT cars going by the previous part numbers.

Who has the upgraded secondary radiator? I ask as I am working on a little project and I need an adapter that will plug in to the secondary radiator connections and preferably convert them to AN -10. I was planning to just weld on AN fittings fittings but if an adapter exists that would be even better.

In case you are curious, I am turning the secondary radiator into a second oil cooler run in series with my OEM one.

there is none that is truly plug and play at the moment. The best we can do is use the PPK hoses and hook it up to a larger cooler core (I was just planning to use the setrab oil cooler core). Pretty easy to do, just need to modify the line to accept AN connection or cut out the OE style connector from a stock aux radiator and weld it to AN line that goes to the new radiator.

FYI, we can purchase the fender liner vent for the driver side separately, so we don't need buy the whole air duct kit. http://www.ecstuning.com/ES1897979/

Well crud! Oh well. I guess I will stick with my original plan to weld an AN fitting to the radiator core tubes then.

The fender liner vent is sized for the OEM core, btw. If you put a bigger core in there the ducts and the vent will not work out. A good portion of the effectivness of the radiator is due to the well designed scoops and ducting that force air through the core.

Hummm, you might have a point there, particularly with coolant radiator where the delta T relative to ambient temp is much less so a good airflow is more critical than what is needed for a oil cooler. Looks like I might be better off sticking to the OE kit then

Yup. Convective cooling is much more efficient than just radiative.

You could look at fabbing up a custom duct that would direct the flow to the core.

I forgot about this thread...oops. I have found lots of coolers that can replace our current secondary cooler. Minor modifcations will only probably be needed You just need to find one of the same diameter but thicker. All the other stuff is minor and chump change.

Where did you find these coolers at? I really want to get the upgraded radiator, oil cooler, and secondary radiator before next summer hits FL

You can just use a oil cooler core like those from Setrab. Anything that can fit on the passenger side for oil cooler, will fit on the driver side too.

The only tricky part is connecting these the factory quick disconnect, which is preferable to just cutting them up and slapping a hose clamp on them.

thanks for the reply bud. So if I am looking to upgrade both 2nd radiator and oil cooler, what size core from Setrab would you recommend?.... I wonder what shop I should go to locally that can do the upgrade with the oem connections
