Android control via factory radio?

I own a 2013 e92 with the Professional factory sound system. My iPhone died yesterday. I am thinking of replacing my iPhone with a new Android phone (e.g., Galaxy S5 or HTC One M8). I really like the ability to listen to iHeart or Pandora radio in the car on long trips/drives. I use the factory dual cable connector to connect the iPhone to the AUX & USB ports under the armrest. I am trying to find out if the BMW Professional factory radio supports connectivity to the Android phones.

I am not sure if it makes a difference, but the car does not have the navigation system.

You can play music and such from android by just getting an Aux cable and plugging it in there. But no controls. I have an android and have to resort to this.

Can you charge the Android using the USB adapter under the armrest?

I have a note 3 and when I plugged in my phone via usb it only showed like 10 songs out of 400 something as the rest were lossless and I guess the car didn't recognize it. I think you can control the songs via idrive but it won't recognize playlists so i just ended up getting a 160gb ipod for the car and use it with the y cable.

I do not have the iDrive Navigation. I am more interested in listening to internet radio (iHeart, Pandora, etc.) I already have an iPod.

Derp, never even thought to charge my phone in the car that way. Does anyone know if it works for my year through the glovebox? I will try it next time I take a cruise.

So my sister has an 2011 328i e93 and she charges her iphone through the glove box usb. So I guess it works. But I read a while back that you shouldn't? Since it's only for storage purposes. But again, my sister charges her iphone that way so it is possible.

Not sure about other androids, but for Moto Droid Maxx, there is a cable that goes from a micro USB to USB+aux, so you can just plug a the micro USB to the phone and it will do recharging and audio.

I use the motorola car dock that I just snap my phone onto and run the cabling under everything and into the glovebox. Don't have idrive.

This dock. Really like it, takes me a couple seconds to snap my phone into it and less to take it out. Have my smart-actions on the phone set to just auto start tune-in radio whenever it senses that dock.

Look closely at the USB cable on the page if it's confusing what I mean by micro USB to USB+aux.

I have also used a few different bluetooth devices, but wanted to charge my phone while I was at it, especially if I was running bluetooth, so I was running a cable anyway.

you can't charge your phone (regardless of make) in the glove box but you can charge both android and iphone under the armrest. Unfortunately I don't think there's a way you control your phone via the car's controls.

All I care is being able to play internet radio music through the factory radio + charge it during long trips. From prior responses it seems I'll be able to do the same with an Android. That is not different from what I can do with my iPhone 4S.

I have an iPhone, but I stream Pandora (all of my music, actually) through Bluetooth. I can't imagine why the same can't be done with Android (iDrive or no iDrive).

You can charge it through the arm rest USB (done that before on both my older Android and iPhone 5).

Since there was different opinions on here I had to try it out. Sitting in my '10 right now and the glovebox USB is definitely charging my Samsung. Might be diff for IPhone Idk. Also, only time will tell if its efficient.

Yea as mentioned, my sister has an 2011 and she charges her iphone 5 through the glove. Like the above says, not sure how efficient it is as it's not my car and dont' drive it. But definitely charges.
