Anyone tried Kumho ECSTA ASX?

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on new 18" tires on my 330i ZHP. PS2s are too expensive for me, the Goodyear DS3s seem to have flat spots these days, so I'm considering an all-season tire because I think the dry traction will be good enough for my purpose and I want a smooth and quiet ride (I also just realized my previous E46 came with stock Bridgestones in the 'grand touring' category, and that car was ridiculously sticky in the corners, so I think I should be fine with a UHP AS tire).

That said, I'm considering either the Kumho ASX and the Yoko Advan S4. Can anyone comment on whether the Yoko is worth the extra few hundred $$ over the ASX? I have read extensive reviews on both on tirerack, would love some real world observations about switching from the RE50 RFT to the Kumhos (or the Yokos).

I wish I could give you some firsthand feedback but don't have my car yet. I was in the same boat trying to decide between the Kumhos and Yokos. Finally decided to go with the Yokos after reading all the reviews I could find. Check out 1010tires.com. They have quite a few reviews on almost every tire sold. As soon as I get my Yokos installed I can tell you how they compare to the RFTs as I will be driving home from SC on the RFTs and then taking them off. I need A/S tires here in western MD.

ive heard some good things about the kumhos....

great grip, and strong sidewalls

deffinatly better for the price over the yokos

I currently have the Kumho Asx tires on my S4. They are a pretty good tire for an all season. I am happy with them ,especially for the price. My S4 came with the original Conti sports contacts which were crap and lasted 11k miles. I replaced them with Conti Extreme Contact A/S tire which I was really happy with and lasted 18K before I replaced them . I could have gotten a few more miles on the tires, but didn't want to go through winter with worn out tires. I feel the Kumho's are ALMOST as good as the Contis, but perhaps not quite as good in snow. But we didn't really have much snow in PA last winter. I am currently thinking of getting the Kumhos when I get replacement wheels and tires this fall.(unless I go to 19" wheels). But if the price difference is not that big, I would probably go for the Conti Extreme Contacts again.

I would go with Kumho, if you are debating between the two. Personaly preference though. I've only ran Kumho tires for a while, now I am on Falken stuff, but I have no problem running Kumho either if I have the chance to.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I could be satisfied with the Kumho's but am wrestling with spending $300 more and maybe getting some more piece of mind with the better ratings of the Yokos. I guess at that price point, I'll be just a few hundred bucks away from the PS2s :-). Ah the games we play in our heads!

I do feel that overall the Kumho should be a step up in ride, traction, and overall road feel compared to my RE50s, so that's comforting. Any other opinions appreciated. I'll let you guys know what I decide.
