First time at dragway
I went to the dragstrip (Cayuga) for the first time last night and let me say that it was more fun then I expected.
Went down with a few coworkers and their cars and attempted some runs but the track was super busy so I just got a few runs. I ran with a passenger and my trunk was pretty full. I was not running for best times but just wanted to see how the car pulled and felt. My car is stock with a recent addition of the Cobb AP (91 map). I was running with my stock 18" wheels and Michelin PSS tires (did not check tire pressure before runs) As I said I did not prepare for this but I was a little disappointed with the run I got: R/T: .243 60' : 2.575 330: 6.381 1/8: 9.446 MPH: 79.89 1000: 12.056 1/4: 14.236 MPH: 103.65 My second run was pretty much the same with trap speed around 104 MPH. I know my 60' is terrible (my car is M/T) I did not dump the clutch but when i tried launching from 3000 rpm I could not get any traction at all (Did not do a burnout to warm tires either, DTC was on). Once i did hook up it felt like the car was pulling strong. So my question is, what can I do to improve my ET and launch? What DTC settings do you guys use? |

Glad you enjoyed it. You may get a better response posting in the N54 engine forum but let me provide a few pointers: 1) always run with DTC off; 2) do a slight burnout to remove water/residue from tires; 3) launching at 3,000 rpm is too high with your tires...should be somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 RPM; 4) get rid of your passenger and everything else in your trunk that is not absolutely necessary and 5) if you can, fill up with a few gallons of MS 109 or 100 octane.
There are 335's with only a Cobb Stage 1 tune running in the 12's and trapping at over 110 MPH. You have a lot of oportunity for improvement in front of you.
