I've just picked up 2x 225/40 R18 and 2x 255/35 R18 Continental TS830. £840 fitted from Hawleys in Sheffield. They're happy to hang on to them for a few weeks until I need them. These are 2011 manufacture too. http://www.hawleystyres.co.uk/

While I was looking round I found that quite a few tyres in the OEM sizes were listed on various sites but dig a little deeper and the manufacturer may have dropped them for 2011. For example I believe Pirelli no longer do the SottoZeros in the rear size.

Is there much point in us 18" M Sport 2x 225/40 R18 and 2x 255/35 R18 people trying for a group buy...or would it be a flop since we would all be wanting to have the tyres delivered round the country?

I really do want to keep these alloys over the crappy winter period (feels like half the bloomin year up here!) as quite simply I like the look of them!

A 225 tyre will fit an 8.5 rim, however it will mean the tyre is a little stretched, an 8.5 rim is 216mm wide, so only 4.5mm a side to spare, again meaning curbs will seem like magnets.

17's on 205/50/17 or 225/45/17 are ideal and will do what they are meant to do far better than 255s.

Hey gIzzE, way ahead of you my friend. I've managed to bag myself a spare set of genuine staggered MV3's which I went and picked up yesterday. A couple have some very minor kerbing which is fine as I'm going to get them fully refurbed to the same colour as my OE's, I'm quite keen to keep the Sport Plus look.

I snapped them up for a very good price on ebay as soon as they were listed and the bonus is they came with a set of Michelin Pilot PS2 run flats. The rears are on the limit but the fronts have about 5mm left so I'm going to see what I can get for them, looking on eBay they're reaching £80 ish each so that will go towards the refurb!

I'm keeping any eye out for winter tyres now, 225's on the rear might worry me but 245's seem a possibility.

I ran 225/40/18 and 245/40/18 on 189 wheels which were a good fit. I know a lot of people advocate running the same size on all 4 corners, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it

Almost ANY winter tyre will be better than the best summer tyre in winter. Falkens should be good if you can get them.

Just bought 255x35x18 Dunlop wintersport 3d from camskill which by all accounts is a top rated tyre.

Tried continental 830p's via Mytyres but did not enjoy the treatment of them accepting my credit card then demanding direct bacs payment incase I was trying to defraud them etc!

225s all round will work but you need to be aware of changes to your speedo if you start to change rolling circumference with different widths and profiles like 245x40x18! Maybe small differences but it will change the reading bs actual.

Meant to say, choose wisely as judging from my wife's winter tyre experience and other comments on here this purchase should last several seasons, so I think it is a worthwhile investment.

Good point. I think it's false economy going for no brand winter tyres. Or false economy going for no brand tyres full stop. I'm taking the view that I've just bought my next set of tyres early. I have my car for 4 years and I'll spend 2 years on my winters and 2 years on my summers.

Back to the OP - After checking today, MyTyres have got tons of stock of 225/40/18 AND 255/35/18 winter tyres in a variety of flavours at sensible prices. If Event don't start showing some stock soon, I'll be using MyTyres and having them fitted locally.

I know some have had problems with paying but I bought 18" staggered Pirelli Sottozero tyres from Mytyres last year. They came early and got them fitted locally no problem. Worked a treat in the snow as well.

Are those falkens hs439? I'm debating about them due to mixed reviews but these are top end budget/ low end mid range

Have you run on them previously or new?

Where did you get them from?

I have just had a set of Falken HS439's fitted to my staggered mv3's all with standard sizes, brought them off mytyres did everything over the net, had tracking numbers to track them from Germany and within a week they were delivered to my local garage and fitted all for the sum of £580, needed two new rears anyway and wasn't going to pay £520 for 2 summer RFLTS, so now have 4 new winter tyres fitted.

Currently running 19" 225's on falkens and really pleased with the setup, so will take them off once weather starts changing, put them in to storage and have 18" setup all ready for the winter months, will post update of new setup once i have them on and get them bedded in.

Resorting back to your thread mytyres have warehouse's all over Europe so i'm sure they will get a winter tyre for you.

Event tell me they start stocking winters from late September, so it'll probably be another couple of weeks before they're listed on the website.
