Another 335d loss in power
Ok ive scanned the forum and understand this could be pretty common. So got in the car this morning and the problem occured pretty much straight away. At low revs i seem to have no power, the revs go up slowly but i dont go any quicker , once i hit about 3k revs the turbo finally kicks in. Think a 1.0 litre corsa would be quicker than me at the minute Can anyone confirm that they had this same fault and what is was? also best way to fix it without the stealer pulling my pants down Also no fault codes shown. Cheers

either new seals and/or new hoses. It is a PUMA issue (BMW'S internal fault reporting system). if your inside your warranty it will be done f.o.c

Yes this is common
Mine only happened the once... so far and i wondered if it was because i nailed it too early. Anyway, it could be the vacuum hoses perishing, mine are, under the engine cover, all the braiding is coming off etc. Or could be the actuator which has failed, also common. |

cheers for your responses.
Ive checked the hoses and they seem burnt but dont look like they have any splits in them. Ive got a funny feeling its the actuator(s). Im currently sitting on 66k. Got it booked into a bmw specialist tomorrow so ill post up on how i got on. Cheers

My loss of power was above about 2k, maybe 2.5k RPM - so the larger turbo, opposite to the OP's issue which is with the small turbo.
BMW replaced all my vacuum hoses, pressure convertors and couple of other un-related bits. Seems to be back to normal now. |

Hmmmmmm when I bought my 330d I had the "wish I'd gotten a 335d" syndrome.....
Sort of glad I didn't now as these hose, turbo and pressure convertor problems seem to be more widespread now

sorry never updated this thread with the outcome.
Got it checked over by a local BMW specialist and it turned out to have leaks in the hoses, so i replaced all the hoses and the car now runs spot on. Total cost £250 which i dont think is too bad as it could of been alot worse.

It does seem that BMW have used some rather dubious quality hose material in the 335d - the intercooler hose that leaks, then these pressure/vacuum tubes to the turbos etc
I guess they've had to save the pennies somewhere........

mmm I agree with you there Dave, it seems now that the 330d is more reliable with very little talk of turbo related problems!

I know it is just hosing which is pennies but some of the hoses are quit difficult to route. I had an oil line replaced and both pressure convertors which were bar tested and failed the test so a little more widespread but if i had to pay, it would have been £620 odd. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people had/have these problems. They blamed heat but you would expect them to use components that would withstand constant high temps!! A BMW specialist who i vaguely know said he see's more 335i come in with this problem due to the higher temps than the D. |
