Silver, same one in my sig pic. I was with my truck and trailer, next to the Got Blue Milk trailer.

Looking forward to the videos. I won't have time to post mine for quite sometime.

Aki, Thanks for the files. I'll check them out soon. Curious, what time did you run? I'm guessing 3 seconds faster than me. You toasted me on every corner. Just couldn't keep up!

BTW, that was probably the BEST event I've ever attended. NCRC Point-by was very smooth. I don't think I'll ever run HPDE 2 again. If with NASA, I'll go 3 every time. Just need a trackmate. Aki?

Dan,

Does NCRC require an anual membership fee or just the track fee? I'll try to attend their next event at Infineon or Laguna.

No $10 entrance fee. No annual membership required. However, if you do not pay the $40 membership fee, each driving event costs $10 more. So, that made the THill event $109. Compare that to NASA with its required membership PLUS $10 track entrance fee and it's substantially less.

Plus, we have 5 25 minute sessions. First was at 8am. Last at 2:30. Much less wait time between sessions. I enjoyed this event so much more.

Start a thread for the Dec 30th Laguna Seca event. I am down!

Best was a 2:14.99 I think. Haven't had a chance to check it all out yet, but I'm sure there is ample opportunity to improve a few seconds. My braking is not right (over slowing) and the car was just running too hot (which killed power). I'm thinking of doing an oil and water chance before the next event in September, but I also don't get this hot at Infineon I think...

That time sounds about right. I look forward to your video.

I'm probably with you on overbraking. Perhaps I can shave a few seconds off without even getting R compounds. Add that to the mix and maybe one of us could break 2:10! That would be awesome!

Change out your coolant. It's well worth it.

PS. I shipped out the pads yesterday. Thanks again.

Here's my write-up of the event. Full posting here:
http://trackmeep.posterous.com/20110...oint-by-w-ncrc

Main lessons:
  • Still don't have good, repeatable reference points for braking.
  • Have lots more I could go through some of the corners with, but I'm typically over-braking as opposed to finding a smooth arc that will let me drift through the corner on track-out (e.g. turn 8)
  • The car is at it's limit with respect to heat. I was running in the 285-295 range most of the day and at 295 the power gets cut severely (to prevent from going up to 300 where it will limp mode on you). Ambient temps were in the 95 degree range and I'm running stock BMW coolant (not distilled water + mocool).
  • This is a stock 2007 335i from an engine perspective, so I'm not even pulling extra boost or anything like that. I do have the stock oil cooler, but it's still way hot/losing a lot of power.
  • Some work to address these issues would be:
    • Evolution Racewerks competition oil coolers w/ aluminum shrouds
    • 50/50 Meth kit to inject water and methanol into the intake charge pipe and reduce heat soak/engine operating temperatures.
    • Cold Air Intake & upgraded Intercooler to get richer/better air to the engine and reduce workload on the turbo system.
  • I don't really want to start engine modding, it just seems like something purposebuilt/made for the track would make more sense. Ergo a Boxster Spec Racer or E36 M3 track car seem like better routes.

Anyway, onto the video. My best time was a 2:14.9 (Lap 2) in Session 5:

And I also encoded Session 4:

Which was next best. The videos were generated using a similar methodology to what I've posted before, but with data from an AiM SOLO DL hooked up to my ECU (steering control, brake sensor, throttle sensor, RPM, temps, etc). The AiM data is a bit off from the video, not sure why it's not right, will have to work out the kinks later.

Your driving looks really good. I think you have a 2:10 in you with a little adjustment and the distilled water.

BTW, your car starts pulling power well before 295. I think it's around 265 where it starts mapping back. I know at 270 I could feel it.

So Dan, any power reduction so far with the meth?

Awesome job! I can't wait to review my data. Away in Florida so it won't be til next week when I can check it out. Of course, I will be slower. I know were pretty equal on the suspension now but I really need some R compounds. Tune or not, I just can't keep up. (nice lines)

I think you may be right. 2:10's are in his future. Perhaps when it's not so hot. Perhaps it will happen with coolant/water swap. I hope I can get there too.

I know I ran hot too but it was definitely cooler than Aki. Now, I am on meth and distilled+ww. But, I am AT vs Aki's MT so I normally would run hotter. Iirc, I hit 275, maybe 280. I may have got reduced power but it wasn't drastic. Perhaps it's masked by meth. My biggest issue continues to be my tires. That's probably a good 3 seconds difference on this course.

Btw, I should follow up on my upgrades since my last pathetic event. As you know, I upgraded to m3 arms/bones, stop tech rotors, ss lines, and motul 600. Everything worked flawlessly BUT on my first lap, I started experiencing shutter again. Luckily, Aki had an extra set of pads with him. That fixed my issue. I am now sold on the idea of track specific pads. I have hawk ut10's coming in the mail. Braking will no longer be my achilles heel.
