I am not in any way defending the officer's actions in this case, but imagine that you have to make split second decisions in situations that nothing in life can prepare you for. I'd be curious to see how you'd react.

And, why is is so offensive that a cop can make enough to afford a BMW? Let's be honest, who has failed society more? Cops, teachers or sniveling asshats who sit in offices and complain about things which they know nothing about?

oh snap!

i would agree with your statement in some situations, however in this case they beat the guy's face in and made him look like a piece of roadkill. that's not a split second decision, that's a sustained beating

i know several people who are either police officers or train police officers in martial arts. cops learn effective techniques for subduing a crazed/enraged/drugged-up/intoxicated person that don't result in massive facial injuries and brain trauma. at the very least, they could have contained him to an area and waited for more backup.

the cops who did this are terrible at their jobs and have no business wearing a badge, and should be tried for murder

Agreed. Which is why I said, "I am not in any way defending the officer's actions in this case, but imagine that you have to make split second decisions in situations that nothing in life can prepare you for. I'd be curious to see how you'd react."

Trust me that in this day and age, there will be little if any lienency for these officers. FOIA and media attention have made it nearly impossible for this type of thing to be swept under the carpet. Transparency is a very good thing.

omg.. this is so sad.... total bs... seriously the good cop to bad cop ratio is like 1 to 20.. if i ever decide to commit a crime i'll become a cop first then get the lightest sentencing if i get caught

Isn't that supposed to be the "courageous" part of becoming a cop? Protecting your fellow human being and knowing that in doing so you will be put in danger? I understand split-second decisions, but you're totally wrong here, mane. This was not one of those reactionary scenarios. No cops were really EVER in danger here. They knew he didn't have a gun in 2-3 seconds. No knife in 10. But 15 minutes they beat the ___ out of him. Something went wrong, control was lost. What harm would have come if they even went as far as completely backing off, letting him stand up and stumble around? If these cowards were scared of AIDS, or getting bitten or scratched by a crazy homeless person, they should have taken a f**kin desk job. It's ____ like these that make the good cops look bad and they should be made an example of. I'm sure they WERE provoked. But guess what, you're a COP and he's a CITIZEN. So what if he ends up socking you in the face. Problem is cops get drunk with power and can't stand the thought of being humiliated.
