Import fees for parts?

Do you have to pay import fees on items ordered from abroad?

Has anyone ordered from Jbspeed (for delivery to the UK before)? I think they are based in America. What's your experience with them?

If the invoice value is over £135 -It's 2.7% and vat chargable.

Damn it! My order comes in at around £140

Does that mean I need to around another £33 extra for import fees?

Customs duty and possible handling charge by the courier service like DHL on this side for holding your goods till the fees are paid.

I might and try and haggle the price down to below £135 then - I hope this will avoid the import fees.

You can run the risk of a dodgy invoice but then if the item gets lost you wont get much payout.

True for the seller, but if the buyer doesn't receive them, it's down to the seller to replace the goods, assuming the goods need proof of delivery. But you can't have it both ways, low value invoice and full replacement of lost items.
