Do Canadian E92/93s come with TPM??

I was under the impression that the new E92/93 would follow the US and come with tire pressure monitoring sensors in the wheels, but when I talk to the guys ay my delaer yesterday they said they are still using ABS speed sensors to do the job.

Are they right? If (and when) I get aftermarket wheels do I need to install those sensors?? My car will come with sport package.

No the canadian versions of the car do not have the TPM they have the sensors you mentioned. Everytime you put air in your tires you have to reset the sensor on the dashboard. Quite simple actually.
I beleive that if you buy aftermarket tires you should be okay and you would not have to install new sensors.

On Canadian cars, you don't have to reset anything unless there is a significant loss of pressure and a warning is shown on the dash (or iDrive screen) that signifies a problem. Usually, that means you have a flat. It will not tell you if you are underinflated by a few psi. If there is a slow leak and you pump it back up or repair it, you'll need to reset (easy process). You do not need the in-wheel sensors. The Canadian car system is simply detection of a change in wheel diameter via the ABS. I changed over my 17" winters to my 18" summer tires (which have similar tire diameters) and did not have to reset the system for any of the wheels. It's quite insensitive.

Went by the dealer today and saw a car in the lot with TPM!! (The valve stem is metal and is bigger and thicker than the conventional black rubber variety.) Turned out that it is an 08 model and the sales rep said starting 08 all Canadaian Cars will have them. Apparently 07 is the last year for using ABS sensors to measure tire circumference to determine whether it is low in air pressure.

It was an 08 what? Certainly not an 08 e92.

There's no chance that it an '08. They start with August production.

My only experience with a true TPMS was in my father-in-law's '06 Corvette. Granted that was probably a typically shoddy and amateur-hour GM implementation, but they were really flaky -- constantly warning that pressure was off, but whenever I checked the tire pressure it was fine.

It seems as though some of them have TPMS, with the larger metal stem. What a PITA these are to mount tires on!

Majority of them still are running on the ABS sensor system in Canada as far as I'm aware of

Big fat metal stem underneath the valve cap (5 o'clock position, Soni), versus skinny rubber ones in a conventional setup.

My rep said it had TPM so when I ordered my mags the sensors were installed..

get the car and bingo no TPM of course..

I don't think you can retro fit it but why would you want to do that anyways? TPM add weight to the wheels and make it more difficult to unmount the tires. In fact not all the tire shops know how to deal with them as yet. In non TPM cars the computer reads the existing ABS wheel sensors to determine whether there is a low pressure tire (low pressure = smaller tire diameter = faster moving wheel = higher ABS sensor pulse rate, got it?), and that's a more clever way to do things. Everybody switch to TPM becasue of US Government mandate and you know how "smart" they are!

You should take the TPMs out and sell or return them instead.

BTW, what model is our car that does not have TPM?
