I find it difficult to believe that this happened unnoticed at a dealer.

Damn, I don't think ive ever seen that on a customers car before.
Only reason why I'd see that happen is a reallllly quick temperature change. Maybe engine fluids dropping on hood? I dont see how they'd get there though or how the owner never saw it in the first place ![]() |

its not a fluids on the paint issue, you would see run lines if that was the case
it looks like crazing = paint failure and separation only thing to do is repaint it might have been a shitty, fast repaint for whatever reason prior to pickup |

Interesting, might be worth him checking the car for overspray if they tried to cover something up by repainting. that's crazy though def wish him luck.

Best bet is to get a detailer to evaluate the paint with a PTG to see if the hood has indeed been repainted. If it hasn't I would go raise hell at the dealership.
On a side note, I have seen another car like this, it was due to poor prepping and bad curing time of the paint. |

I have a small spot on my hood like that. Prior to me buying it, someone had resprayed the hood and front bumper cover. It was not a great job so I am inclined to believe the OP's problem is not the fault of the dealer but rather a poor prep job.
