Engine died (50,742 miles)

So I drove my 328i automatic home tonight, no problem. About an hour later, went to grab dinner, and as I backed out of the driveway, the engine died. Seemed a little odd, but no warning lights, so I put it in park and tried to start it.

It tried to start, caught a couple times, but had a really low uneven idle, and then died again. Tried giving it a little extra gas, but no go. The starter will now go for about 6-8 seconds before I'll stop it.

Right now I'm planning on calling the dealer in the morning, and then presumably arranging for a tow.

Two questions:
1) Any easy suggestions or things I might check?
2) I'm assuming BMW will likely cover this, given how close to 50K I am? I bought extended maintenance, but of course didn't go for extended warranty.

Wait for the diagnosis, see if dealer will go to bat for you, ask for goodwill repair.

Fuel pump? Or you ran out of fuel. Sounds exactly like fuel starvation.

Scan with BT tool, my guess is fuel filter or fuel pump.

To check for the in-tank fuel pump, pull the rear seat cushion, then turn the ignition on and listen for a hum from the fuel tank on the right side.
