FBO Build Thread + Dyno

I attended the EFI Logics Dyno Day last weekend in Bethel, CT to get a baseline HP/TQ reading for my 2008 335XI coupe 6MT w/48K miles.

Dyno Run #1 - DCI + Cobb Stg 1 Agressive (93 Octane) - 278HP/308TQ
Dyno Run #2 - Baseline w/DCI (93 Octane) - 254HP/257TQ
Dyno Run #3 - DCI + Cobb Stg 1 Agressive (93 Octane) - 284HP/311TQ

The only problem I ran into on the dyno was on the first pass. Chris from EFI said I threw a code for a boost leak. I've never encountered this on the street, so I wasn't worried and just had him delete the code. We didn't have any problems on the 2nd or 3rd runs.

Chris mentioned that all stock XI N54's seem to dyno in the 250HP range on the Mustang dyno.

I've also done a baseline 1/4 mile run (completely stock). I'll be returning w/FBO in June for another few passes.

60' 1.925
330 5.596
1/8 8.669
MPH 80.01
1000 11.296
1/4 13.506
MPH 102.13

Now that I have a solid baseline, I've done some shopping!

Today, I ordered:
CP-E 3" Catless Downpipes
ER Competition FMIC w/CF Shroud
ER Chargepipe
Forge DV
BMS OCC

I'll be installing all of the above in the next 2 weeks, reflashing my ecu w/the Cobb Stage 2 + FMIC Aggressive Map, and heading back to the EFI Logics dyno. So stay tuned.

I'm up in the air about doing the intake valve cleaning prior to dyno'ing, b/c I'm not sure if my engine has any tell-tale signs that it needs it. I've had 3 injectors and all the spark plugs replaced by the dealership recently.

Is there any preventative maintenance that I should be doing before installing the rest of these bolt ons?

Thanks!

You're doing it right

Are you planning on changing the intake, though?

Thanks! I was originally shocked when I saw 254whp for the baseline run, but was reassured that it was quite a normal # for that specific type of dyno. I keep reading that depending on how the dyno is loaded, Mustang dyno's read between 11-12% lower than a typical Dynojet.

That puts my whp at right around 280whp on a Dynojet.

Thanks! I currently have a BMS Dual Cone Intake. I've read that this is pretty standard for FBO cars. Although, I have been checking out the Stett CAI a lot lately...

You know it! You can drive my car whenever you want after you get rid of the E90, if you let me dip in the E36 M!

Nice numbers, looking forward to your next dyno adventure. You'll love the added power once you get those mods bolted up

Plugs/Injectors would be the only things that come to mind and it looks like you took care of that already.

If you're not getting a rough idle/stumbling RPMs the intake valve cleaning is really up to you. It's not a bad idea (as far as preventative maintenance is concerned), and i'm sure you've seen tons of threads about how much better people say their motors run after doing it. BMW is picky about warrantying the process though, and it can be a very expensive endeavor out of pocket if done at a dealer. My feeling is (and I'm at 33k on my 335) I'd rather have the blasting done earlier rather than later, even if it means I have to do it a second time down the road. I would hate to unknowingly sacrifice performance from all that crap building up!
