Question 46k miles = transfer case gone bad?

I have a 2008 328xi coupe with 46k miles on it. The car was bought CPO with 32k miles 17 months ago.

Its in the shop now getting a new wheel bearing and a new transfer case.

Is this normal for a car with about 46k miles??(seems low miles for this )

How much of a concern should this be for the future regardign it failing again or what not?

I'm thinking of selling because of a few issues... cylinders and lifters replaced, tail lights replaced, front headlight assembly replaced, wheel bearing, now transfer case.

Any input is appreciated.

I had mine replaced around 40k. Was making a weird noise. I wouldn't say it's normal, but I also wouldn't say its an indicator of anything going forward. It's a high wear componant on the car.

How exactly did they replace your cylinders?

well i had the ticking sound looked on this site...brought it in told them i researched and this is what i suspect and they confirmed. Said two cylinders and lifters had to be replaced, its a common known issue with bmw and other german car engines... my 07 a4 had the same issue but only one cylinder was replaced and somehow they did it same day for me since i had someplace to go the next morning.

I've been hearing humming noises lately from the cabin and didn't even realize it till I saw this thread. Now it makes sense. I have 218 miles left before I hit 50K. I called up the dealer and made an appt for next Thursday first thing in the AM. Looks like I'll be riding the bike or my other car to work next week to keep the miles down...

How many miles do u have on your car since then the replacement? Trying to figure out when/if this expensive repair will ever be needed again under my watch or when to look out for it and sell before that.

I dont see myself keeping this car another 16 months when the warranty is out.
