Check Engine Light
I was out for a nice pleasant drive at the weekend. The sun was out, I had the roof down and the sound of the straight six was giving me a semi when all of sudden I got the yellow warning check engine light so I immediately pulled over and stopped the car. Waited a few minutes, restarted and the car was back to normal but 10 minutes later it did it again.
It seemed to be fine when driving normally but would trigger if I gave it a bit of a bootful so am I right to assume that this is probably the dreaded HPFP rearing it's inevitable and ugly head? |

Could be, although that's not as prominent as it is in the US. Could be coil packs? Injectors?
Get it booked in and plugged upto a reader.

Yep, it's under warranty so I will be doing that ASAP but it would be nice to have an idea of what it might be before I get the usual flim-flam\waffle from my dealer. They usually come through in the end, it's just the 2-3 days of crap you get from the so called "service advisor" that I hate having to deal with. Am tempted to take it to a mates garage first and get it on his autologic reader.
Are injectors and\or coil packs covered under warranty? |

Yes mate they are. Is it a extended warranty then rather than the original 3 year?
They will be covered don't worry. It may have the original coil packs in for example. It's worth getting them to change them all rather than the one.

Just had my coils done. Yellow engine light issue started about 1 month ago where i could restart the car and it would seem OK. It only happened after hard acceleration... usually in 2,3,4th gear. Then on Saturday just gone it started miss firing on cylinder 6. Straight into BMW and replaced the coil pack under AUC warranty, job done within 48 hours.

That yellow light covers a lot of different things. Not much point speculating until you've had the codes read.
Obviously, if you go to the dealer already knowing what codes are logged, and what they mean, you're in a better position to minimise the rubbish that they're likely to try and feed you.

I'll keep this post updated on the results, going on previous form though, I have 2-3 days of faffing around first before I get to speak to somone who knows what they are talking about and get to the root of the problem. I'm not sure how much training the so called "Service Advisors" recieve but on my experience, they seem to now feck all about BMW's or indeed cars in general. |

Yep it is Hexagon and it was me. To be honest my dealership have been pretty decent to be fair. They fixed a leak in my cab roof and replaced a battery on good will, even though these items aren't officially covered by the warranty but that was only because the sales guys pushed for it, the service department wanted to charge me an arm and a leg.
I'm not sure what kind of training they recieve, if any but when someone carries the official sounding job title of Service Advisor, you expect a little bit of product knowledge but I've dealt with them on 3 occasions now and every time they've inspired as much confidence in their technical know-how as the minimum wage spotty youths you find working in Curry's! |
