You make a good point about how fast the cooling system can cool the water, but maybe it only takes 1 or 2 degrees to turn back on the power and this could happen in 30 seconds of a cool down lap? I still think it may be the charge air intake temps. This is the main culprit in a SC car and the problems being discussed with power loss is exactly what I had with my other car. A larger air to water HE cured the problem. Cylinder's five and six also are known to get hotter than the others. Are there sensors for each cylinder bank that tell the car to shut power down at a certain temp?

From the technical documents posted in the forced induction forum here, it LOOKS like there is only one temperature sensor (based on the schematic).
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38856 It also looks like a CEL would be thrown if the intake air temp was too high (look at page 18). Also it does look like a couple of degrees would make a difference in power output. According to the specs above, it looks like power is reduced from 100% after 244 degrees coolant temp and 305 degrees oil temp (if I am reading the chart right). Did your temperatures get that high? I really wonder whether or not you and jjlawyer were experiencing temperature related or knock related problems. Would you consider using 100 next time you go to the track? That would help eliminate knock as a potential cause...

What difference did you notice with the 100 on the 335i?

something i just realized, you could use this scanner to determine the quality of gas!!! you could go fill up on shell gas and run through a tank logging it and then go fill up at 7/11 and see what happens!! does it give you just the plain degree or does it give you a value pertaining to current load and such |
