Just a little non-racer story. I had an opportunity to take a hot lap with Vic Elford in a brand new 997, and I tell you it was wild all the way up to 160 MPH. He shifted effortlessly and we made it through the turns (I am not a track guy, short series of cones, left, right, left, right, etc) never once letting off the gas. The braking and turning were something else. I never had such a smile on my face like I did that day. Although this car was over my budget and driving skills it still was a wicked car if I was in that cash bracket. Just my input! The picture was taken at the Mayport Naval Air Station on the tarmac, part of this years Amelia Island Concours D Elegance.

you guys have clearly never been to a trackday

I'm not the fastest guy out there, hell I've had to get out of the way of a well driven Mini and a Miata, on the other hand I've been held up by Vettes, 911 turbos, STI, EVO

it's not about the car, it's about the driver. Pull your head out of the car mags and go get some real experience

you guys in 335's would have ZERO chance keeping up with a well driven Miata, even with Procede... why are so many people selling those BTW?

No, I've never been to a road course track; not interested in killing my car (tires, suspension, possible overheating, etc.). I have been to the 1/4 mi. drag strip though...lots of fun. I understand what you're saying...knowing how to drive your car properly and on a race course takes practice like everything else, but you can't deny that with two equal drivers -- one in a 325i and one in a 335i would result in a win for the 335i on pretty much any race course (especially since the 335i handles as well or better than the 325i and it's much faster). This is not "magazine racing," but common sense.

if you get a chance, auto X has alot of the road course experience to be gained except you're only on your car hard for 1-2 min at a time MAX, where as on the track you may be out for 20 minutes running pretty hard the whole time.

if you're into drag racing that's a whole different game that I personally have no interest in getting started, but tons of people like it and it's a safe environment to go enjoy your car.

as far as seat time per event
drag racing<auto X<trackday, although as far as cost and wear on items like tires go it's probably the reverse order

it's too bad that BMW has made a car that owners have to worry about overheating on track, even without computer tuning for the turbos. Unfortunatly it's just what BMW is doing lately, going more towards tech and gadgets and getting away from building trackworthy cars.

hopefully the 1 series will be what the 3 used to be when it shows up

Don't you know BMW is fixing the Oil cooler problem the 335 ran the 12hours of bathurst race and won w/Proceed to so I guess that wasn't a real track/or race huh? Don't automatically assume your a better drive then me because I know my car is more capable then yours and I won't assume your a worse or better then driver then me thats just stupid your idea is based on what? But like I said have fun whooping on 335's "Track star".

www.bmwcca.org
www.hookedondriving.com

are a couple of places that put on trackdays for you, I'm trying to help you out there.

as for only claiming cars that you own on your sig, you've got some work left

Do you think I should put info on my sister's car or maybe my mom's car on mine?

Hey retard I said I Bought Both cars that means I OWN them because whoever drives it doesn't mean its someone elses, think before you talk I've owned cars you wish you could afford and not only that those arent the only cars I own I have a 06' RR Sport superchargerd and Since this isn't a Land Rover forum I don't post it. (That and there is no ******* and FYI I've been to tracks and I can get free track days in real race cars with my friend who races in the Rolex Daytona series so if I can go to the tack in a BMW M3 GT car and get instruction by Bill Auberlen himself and Matt Alhadeff if you don't know them look it up or turn on speedvision on I'm sure theres a race somewhere why would I bring any street car I own to the track? your not really bright dude just quit already your not making yourself look any smarter here.
