"Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you"

Anyway, update #3

I'm off to pick up the car tomorrow morning from a dealer I've never used before (Stratstone) and the bill has been picked up by an insurance company I've never claimed off before (Aviva).

Wish me luck.

Oh and before anyone mentions keys, yes I'll ask tomorrow.

I will be gobsmacked if anything come up. I'll be honest (because it's my thread ) and say I think the chances are extremely unlikely. BMW obviously have a problem with this but internet forums are terrible places to discuss this sort of stuff. Want to lose all sense of proportion and perspective? Discuss it on a forum.

There. I said it. And no comments, I'm still grieving...

Anyhoo, update #4.

Quality of work I would rate at 'average to poor'. I can still hear glass in the bottom of the door when I shut it. And there are some scratches on internal and external trim that have obviously been caused by the broken glass. I'm going back Monday.

Why is getting a job done right and first time so hard these days?

They're my local dealer, and they are usually pretty good, they come to pick my car up and drop it off for service and warranty work (a 40 mile round trip) I've had body work done there too, and it's always been good quality finish. (a badly loaded trailer of railway sleepers side swiped my 1 series, and a rear shunt on the M1 in my 325d, both dealt with by Stratstone body shop)

Hopefully you will get a better result this time round

I do wonder if it's anything to do with Aviva holding the purse strings.

Still expect a decent job though, you don't half pay your insurance the premium they ask for...insurance co. are just a bunch of C**ts after spending 3 months dealing with a claim!

Yes, and some people have done it.
If you look at technical section of this forum, you will find a good post.

Even with the sensors upgraded the siren is still going to be about as loud as a bee farting, it's a pathetic excuse for a siren which urgently needs to be upgraded as well

This.

The siren is utter shite. Prob some woeful EU regulation about how loud they can be or something. Was the same in the E46 and in the E87.

I certainly can't see it attracting much attention from more than a few metres away.

Discovered last night that few car comes with decreased siren volume.
My siren was reasonable and I had one car for coding. Siren was rubbish on that car so I compared my files to his and conclusion; with coding it can be increased to max.
Other than that you can add high beam lights coded to flash if alarm is triggered.
Those who live in houses, face your car toward you living room. If Alarm gets triggered, it will flash high beams to your property and if you are up by that time, it may help.

Here is the guy who has done it. Credit goes to him.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=740024

I am in a process of ordering few sensors and when I get time, I will play with them.

How to trigger it?
Open your front windows and lock your car. Give it a minute to settle and then insert your hand through the drivers' window and check how good is blind spot ?

It works differently on different cars. On my car it recognised intrusion and alarm was triggered.

On a different three series, I tried to trigger it and no avail. However when I took my hand out of the window, it was triggered at that time. It did not make sense to me, but what can I say about BMW security systems?

Can you simply "swap" the siren for a louder one such as this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-...item5d2af87c40

Where is the siren and can it be just cut and this joined up, or am I missing something?

I have started a new thread with all the answers. Have a look and yes siren can be upgraded though I have not done mine yet.

Hi Makkan00

Your new thread is the reason I ask the question.

You give the Ebay link as a cheap alternative siren, but the how to do it link refers to a more complex piece of kit which requires a fair bit more work.

That's why I wondered if you can just replace the siren with the Ebay siren by just joining the wires together?

Cheers
