OEM HU replacement

Can anyone chime in about this please. Read some posts here that when the factory HU is replaced with an aftermarket stereo/navi and if its not relocated somewhere, there is no way for the dealership to connect to the car computer to do diagnostics if ever the car has some issues? Seems odd to me that BMW would tie up the whole car to the stereo. If it's true, What is next? We can't put gas at ARCO or the car will throw a code?

Well there is the changing the battery issue

Well there is the changing the battery issue.
the car has to be programmed to have the right charging profile for the
new battery . Then there's RFT tires and the lack of a real dipstick .
Ok I have finished ranting.
A lot of car company's are doing the stereo integrated with a lot of other stuff these days it's not BMW unique, but its really problem if you want something else in your car.

True on the battery. I just dropped close to $400 to replace my battery coz it had to be coded and such. WTF? I have a Nissan Armada that we use for long drives with the family. The battery went out after 6 years. I went to Walmart and picked up a $50 battery and installed it myself. Only thing I lost was the programmed FM stations. I mean, how sophisticated should a battery be?

Are you making a statement or asking a question? What is your specific question?

Making a statement on my last post. On my Original Post though I'm asking a question as to whether removing/replacing the factory HU would prevent dealership from connecting to the car computer to do diagnostics if car has issues.

Don't know about whether it hinders diagnostics - but fairly sure that if you don't retain & relocate the OEM radio they will not be able to do any software upgrades if necessary.

And you will also lose all the warning chimes and such, as they got thru the OEM radio.

Can somebody who KNOWS provide some clarity on this point.... I see this said a lot on these forums but it is not the case on my 2007 E92 335. The car was a Logic7 car and Ive now got the dynavin-MS8 setup, DID NOT relocate the head unit (well....I relocated it to my garage shelf), all of my chimes are present and come from an internal dash speaker. It is also not an issue I have heard from any customers with E9X cars.

One point of clarification, my PDC WAS integrated with the stereo, lost it when I took out the original head unit, got it back when dynavin put PDC integration into their units. But all the other chimes are present...

I have not seen a definitive breakdown of what cars have the chimes integrated with the stereo..... Is this something that changed with the LCI cars, nav cars only, urban myth?
