car vibrtation after clutch replacement
ok here is the story.
my clutch was slipping everyone wanted ridciulous amount of money to replace it ( bmw 2500.00 flywheel clutch kit labor, two local shops 1300 no flywheel, other one was 1600 no flywheel). anyway do some research find out dmf can be resurfaced if machine shop has the right tools. take my flywheel off which was in great shape, had it resurfaced and buy oem clutch kit from bmw. replaced pressure plate throw out bearing and clutch disc. now i did not ave the alignment tool for the clutch plate, however i made one using a socket and tape. after talking to many people about the purpose of the alignment tool .. basically if it is mis aligned you wont be able to get the tranny back on.. well i got the trans back on it was a great fit.. put car back together, now i am getting vibration in the rear of the car in low gears. from 1000 to 3000 rpms . on highway it is almost compeltely gone. i dont feel it in the steering wheel or the clutch pedal. i only feel it in the seat and in 1st car makes a weird shuddering like a giant is shaking my back end. if i am parked and rev it up it is very very subtle if at all. cant tell anymore cause ive over analyzed it. only thing i didnt do is mark the drive saft or the center bearing where they were mounted.. im asuming this is the problem.. or by some crazy chance the flywheel is off balance. anyone got any experiences with the drive line/ clutch . i really havent found a lot of people that have done this kinda work on their cars ? ![]() |

also let me note that my wastegate is rattling and i suspect any vibrtation at 100 rpm in neutral are due to rough idle from leaky wastegate.. i should probably throw my car way and get a geo metro..

Its the drive shaft, try to relocate the exact same position as it was before. Double check the transmission mounts. Ive machined flywheels and installed flywheels without being machined before and never had a vibrating issue on other vehicles.

Check the carrier bearing in the middle of the driveshaft. It's offset and it's easy to install upside down. The centerline of the driveshaft should be above the mounting tabs. Typically this does not cause a large vibration so it could be something else.

yea i rotated the center bearing a 180 degrees and all the clunking is fixed.. it still vibrates a very little little bit.. but it appears to be getting better .. think its the clutch breaking in ,, now just have to get wastegate rattle fixed
