Semi-destoyed!!!
my fellow forum mates, as i was driving to my girlfriends house from uni tonight some nut ran a red and rammed into my car.. ahh... it was pissing down at the time, maybe 7pm give and take a few minutes on the intersection of george street and pitt street (near the central station bus stops, my uni is uts).. the lights just turned green for me, naturally you'd go right? thats what i did, then the next thing i knew i was looking at my deflated airbag!!! hmm.... then i realised some nut crashed into me. quite oddly my first reaction was putting my car into P (park) position then pulled up the hand brake, then turning off my engine (which was already switched off, plus the hazard lights were on already). i didnt really care about my throbbing chest from whip lash. i got out the car, the nut driver asked if i was ok, i said yeah yeah... next thing i knew, i was looking for a witness. but everyone had left by the time i went around cars asking if they saw what happened! then i heard a bus driver shouting at the nut driver (you ran a red you asshole).... anywayz, long story short (i know its alot of text to read, but i gotta vent my frustration). the right front quarter of my car is gone, the new light bulbs i installed are gone. the bonnet is kinda gone. the other guys are is a mess as shown in picture. i couldnt get good pictures cos it was pissing down, plus i only had a camera phone.
(btw, is it true once the air bag pops out, you need to replace the whole steering wheel?... and does it cost $6000. not that i really care, cos the other guy is paying for everything) oh... the other dude was only a year younger than me on his green P's. (i'm 21) anyways, i hope ya'll drive safe these days, its pissing down nearly every second day. so careful driving guys + girls. skyskie. p.s. (yes, i'm fine) + (no, my car isnt) + (yes, i'm pissed off that i can't drive for heaps long) |

oh that has to suck hey...
my first reaction when someone hit me last year was staying right in front of them (the hit the rear of my car), so that the bitch woldn't get away with it, lol it's a terrible thing to have happen, and it seems that no matter how good of a driver you are, you aren't safe from the dickheads out there... the main thing is though, that you weren't seriously hurt, cars can be mended/replaced, but you can't! as for the airbag, it couldn't cost 6k, cos that is the price of like, 6 steering wheels or something, bt i know it does cost a fair bit, i'd say 1k+ from what i have heard, and no you don't need a new wheel (our car didn't anyway), they sort of have to repack it

Glad to see you are OK. Looks like all the BMW safety systems worked, you can repair/replace your car but you only live once. Looks like the police attended so the other driver being at fault should be recorded. I expect that you are insured so it should not cost you any $$ to get your car repaired.
