Anyone install a Methanol Kit in their N/A?

Was looking into getting a methanol kit for my N52. Cleans the engine, better burn = more horsepower/better mpg.

Stage 2 Boost Cooler for N/A $503

As well, using Nitro Booster with the kit is said to increase horsepower by +30-50hp... not so sure i want that much engine 'forced' out of this 3.0L but it's a cool idea none-the-less. $33 per 8oz.

The nitro boost claim is for turbo applications. At best you'll see 5-10hp out of the methanol injection. I researched it a while back and decided against it. I had thought about doing it in conjunction with a nitrous kit.

i'll contact SNOW directly and ask them, but their website description doesn't say anything about having to be forced induction for it get performance.

You will not see anywhere near those gains on n/a. even with the expected octane boost and all that if youre not tuned to take advantage of 100 octane it is pointless. You will maybe see 5-10whp or most likely lose power if not tuned. Seriously.

i see... well, i'm mostly in it for the better gas mileage if anything... do you think i would have to be tuned in order to see that too? Hell... even +1mpg is a plus for me...

I never knew we were able to install Meth Kits for our NA cars, but any HP increase without damaging the engine is better than no HP. Keep me updated on this!

i was also thinking that for those guys that are trying to achieve 300hp naturally aspirated, this would help...

i was researching this... made thread too

Found nothing bad about them if you are running a NON meth map. The effect is cooling and some HP bump. The idea is that it raises octane of say 91 or 94 octane gas and makes that gas act more like a 91 or 94 octane gas.

Better gains possible if you run a meth-specific map, but then you worry about running out of Methanol.

here is one of my sources: http://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomete...ing-today.html

other BMW specific sources in one of my threads.

I am only confused what kit to consider: The MAF kit or the kit with a WOT switch.

meth comes in handy when you have too much heat.... like with a blower to turbo.

NA, they do dick. with a 100 shot or so it would work because of the intense heat and cylinder pressure but putting one on a NA car is a waste.

Just got off the phone with Snow Performance directly, speaking to a professional advisor/sale rep... here's what i got about the Methanol Kit and the Nitro Booster:

Considering the Methanol Kit by itself:
You can typically see +5-7hp at the wheels using 50/50 mixture of Boost Juice (it's just methanol with an additive to keep it from evaporating too rapidly in case you keep the cap off the bottle) and see about 3-5mpg increase. In their 135i application, they go through 2.5gal with every 2 tanks of gas. Because it's a boost application, the MAF senses more flow, thus pumping more mixture into the intake in order to maximize performance. With our N/A cars, he suspects that the intake flow will take approx 5 tanks of gas or more depending on your driving habits, tuning/altered compression, and additional modifications.
Get this! If you want to save fuel but don't NEED the performance, you can use -20°F windshield wiper fluid (30%methanol/70%water) in their kit and provides no added performance, but provides 2-4mpg increase! yes... windshield wiper fluid....

Nitro Booster:
This does, in fact, work with Naturally Aspirated engines. It is an additive to the methanol/water mixture. The same physics apply according to air flow. He has, personally, seen +32hp increase on a 2.8L E36, naturally aspirated but tuned to higher compression.

I hope this fills in some questionable gaps...

Additional info:
They are currently offering a $50 rebate on all complete kits until the end of next week.
They offer a 5% discount to active duty military. (not including other discounts/special offers)
Their highest selling product uses the MAF kit because it provides a performance increase throughout the entire RPM band.

good info. I'd be a bit weary on the gain claims since they may be adding a sales pitch. The cheapest prices I have seen are on Ebay

Good info on the MAF kit. I dont feel comfortable on raising compression and watching that Methanol level...

If the price is right, I do want to try this for the Cooling & some octane boost effects.

Yea don't take this as me being a dick, but windshield fluid and using your exisitng reservoir is the most common way, widnshield fluid is judt dyed water/meth mixture.

i dont see how cooler temps = better mpg? in fact its suppose to be the other way around. bmw designs their engines to run hot for fuel consumption and emissions reasons

key thing you said is higher compression. If you boost if by 1pt, you should see a 3% boost in power. I am not 100% sure what a n52 is but id guess 9.5.1-10.5.1........ take that to 11.5.1 or 12.1 and presto changeo.... most power.

also, with higher compression heat becomes more of an issue, so the meth cools things down. presto changeo, more power.

trust me man, if it was the way to go there would be 5 kits out for the n52, guys would be using them on LS1/LS2/LS7 engines, etc etc

Nitrous Express sells a kit for our cars. I talked to them when I was looking at buying the nitrous kit and they said like Johnny said you will get like 5-10 hp it's really not worth it. He said for that price just put a 35-50 shot of nitrous and you would be better off.

As far as our cars running cooler, i feel it all the time. In California when summer comes around and 100 degrees set in my car runs like shit, but in the winter 60-70 degree my car is a champ and it loves the colder air.

there's no kits specifically for our cars because they're all universal. u just drill a hole into your intake air tubing for the atomizer and the rest is just putting parts where u want them to go. And i do see them used for V8s all the time.
Either way, i think $400 for the kit to get a little 5 hp is fine. again, its about the gas mileage for me so i might just go with windshield washer fluid. lol
