Retrofiting HD Radio into non-idrive pre-lci cars
Whats the story with this? I've done a lot of digging around and haven't found clear information.
So can you buy a head unit for a newer 3-series, pop it in, code it, and be on your way? Or do you still have to go the route of adding hardware in the trunk? |

$663A Professional Radio $677A Top HiFi $655A Satellite Tuner I don't subscribe to Sirius radio but I do get text on many of the FM stations Quote:
OP - you may want to search for "E90 Entertainment and Communication." There's a pdf from BMW with a ton of information on the audio system.

From what I read in older posts that was the method to obtain hd radio. But, I've also seen a few newer posts that make it seem that you can drop in an oem head unit out of a newer e90 with hd tuner built in and be done.

You'd have to code it either way if you use a head unit from a newer 3 series with the extra features built in I believe you'd have to change the production date of your car for it to work.

I have an IBOC HD radio tuner (PN 6512 9119363) for anyone looking to retrofit HD Radio. I know it could be done on my pre-LCI, but the process and coding depend on the MY of your car. Info is on the forum somewhere.
Bought it a while ago but never got around to putting it in, ended up getting a new car that came with it. Selling only the tuner though, you will still need the antenna splitter, bracket, coding, and whatever else you need. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref....t=6512+9119363 Here you can find in which vehicles the tuner was used in. Looks like every model is on the list just depends on the year of car. |

I have an 06 and installed a radio from an 2010 with built in HD and everything works fine on that with no coding. My only issue was the radio is from a tophifi car and I have hifi so the sound was really low. But if it was from a hifi car it would have been plug and play.
