Forget making it quicker (by much anyway.)
Google Active Autowerk, get their flash tune. That's about as good as it gets.
Otherwise go the lighting and cosmetics road.
Trust me, I know

Forget about making it quicker, spend your money on some nice wheels and go flat tires and ENJOY it!

If you're looking into getting some headlights go for the OSS

oss or lux angel eyes for the headlights. 3 stage intake manifold + AA tune for extra power (about 35hp/25tq)

Trade it in for a 335xi. You will have HIDs and 300hp; problem solved.

Or you can do it the hard way
OEM HIDs headlights with install $1,300 to $1,800
AA or Eurocharged tune $700+ if you get the device to tune the car yourself and I highly suggest you go that route
Exhaust and intake are debatable but the route I went was
BMW performance exhaust: $1k-$1,200 (shop around)
Euro Intake box plus K&N filter: $400 + $50(about) for filter
Now to really take advantage of the tune you will need to install the 3 stage intake manifold and that will run you between $500-$1k.

+1 same here...that's why I just made the move to a 335i. The xi compared to my previous BM's was sluggish and didn't drive like an ultimate driving machine. Your best bet is cosmetics, but I must say it is fun to smoke an M when it's snowing out.
