Gunky rear turbo outlet

So I noticed this while tightening my wastegate actuator arm today. I figure I'll clean this off and monitor it...but am I in trouble here? I'm at about 97k miles and I've honestly never looked down here, so I have no idea how long it's looked like this. The car drives great, isn't making any strange noises (aside from WG rattle) and I have zero smoke from the exhaust, though I'm catted.

Does it feel like a "greasy-type gunk?" If it is, you probably have a very slight boost leak. My stock IC outlet had this, and I've had it before on other turbo cars.

Could you send me some?

My best guess is that it's residue from a slight leak. We're talking so slight that I wouldn't worry about it. Unless I had OCD...

It's probably oil residue coming from the rear turbo inlet. The PCV system dumps the oil vapors into that rear intake tube, and it gets sucked into the rear turbo. The plastic inlet isn't sealed all that well -- it has a rubber grommet that seals the tube to the turbo inlet, but it usually isn't bolted in. It is sort of a press-fit with a support bracket that prevents it from falling out.

Anyway... it's pretty common for some oil to seep out of it.

Exactly^ mine had a bit on it too last time I was under there.

Got it, thanks man; I'll check that. I also have an upgraded PCV valve on order from Rob, so maybe that will help a little. =)

look above the pipe and see if there's a leak coming from somewhere else (i.e. valve cover gasket). Something could be leaking down on that pipe.
