BMW Cracked wheels?!

So my engine management light came on again..

Took it to sytner.. they said injector 2 and 6 packed up.. we have replaced the injector, coils and spark plugs for cylinder 2 & 6.. All covered under warranty.. Ok it happens, at least it is sorted.

They then told me that as I have only 1 month warranty left they have been going over it with a fine tooth comb so that nothing goes unseen... great...

They found that my horn was not properly working (didn't know that, have owned the car 6 weeks and not had to use it). This has been fixed under warranty. Great...

Then sentence later, we have also checked your wheels to find that you have a crack in one of your rear alloys and three cracks in the other...

Now this is where I get confused.. I was giving directions at the time I received the phone call...

I was told that the "margin of error" on one of the wheels was out, as such they will replace for alloy and tyre for me. The other alloy wheel was fine so I will need to pay. I said I would call back tomorrow to discuss.

So I get on google to see the cost of my alloy.. search 'BMW Alloy Wheel' and come across this artcile

http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/consum...w_latest.shtml

BBC Watchdog reports this as common for BMWs with 19" alloys and run flats... Well I am safely in that bracket.

Advice please?

Push a little harder and I'm sure BMW will cover it under goodwill. I had a crack in one of mine picked up in an MOT. My local dealer who I'd never even dealt with before took the car in, sorted it with BMW and replaced the wheel free of charge.

BMW Coopers in Chelmsford.

There's a whole section on this forum to do with cracked wheels. Might be worth reading other members experiences and using them to your advantage.

Back to the coil packs and injectors !

We have a 325i from new it had so many coil packs and injectors replaced like yours it got to the point off we didnt know what cyl had new and neither did BMW ,The last time one failed outside of warranty I asked WTF the deal was it was a joke ,The garage replaced 6 injectors ,6 coil packs, 6 plugs for £1200 at least I knew they were all new and the latest version of the parts or at least the most modified version due to the on going issues and failures.

The interesting call from the garage was if we do it as good will you dont get and warranty as it is foc but if you make a contribution you will receive 2 yr guarantee on the repair so I paid £198 and BMW paid the £1000.

I would keep a very accurate account off what has been replaced and the Cyl etc as we lost track and thought just another coil pack and injector ,

The car has been trouble free since the big swap out but it does seam they only replace a broken part unless you have a ding dong , I had one cracked wheel at the mot and it was under warranty being 3 yrs old now 3yr and 3 months the other is cracked and it needs paying for despite them knowing the issue is there so id would say insist as its going to save hassle later. The service manager didn't get it when I said as it was a known issue and when you are replacing one cracked wheel and it isn't a case off if the other cracks just when ,he said sorry we can only replace broken parts ,I had a discussion and said let me explain about the coil packs and worse case senario is it goes in to limp mode ,If my wife's wheel fails with the kids in the car and she is stranded or worse I will be pi$$ed he fully agreed but said the BMW line was if it ain't broke it don't get replaced,we went round in circles and could not agree I said coil packs you replaced 6 when 1 failed because you know they have a problem ????????????. The wheels you know there are issues but are being a twat, I walked away because I realised I was going to lose it , now i'm looking at a cracked wheel and will buy a rear from ebay and get it refurbished there is no way i'm giving BMW £550 .

I am going to buy a new rim but come the time I px it against a 4 series coupe I will refit the cracked alloys for them to enjoy .
