I've been considering running my car on an ethanol mix as they do in the USA. Whilst there is no supply of E85 at the pumps anymore, you can buy E100 (TSDA 9) from approved suppliers and store it in a garage etc - with the appropriate licences (free)..

TSDA 9 in a 1000 Litre IBC would cost £1.15 per litre delivered. This makes it marginally more expensive than 95 RON when you factor in the reduced fuel economy..

Unfortunately in a 205L drum (what I'd be more tempted by) its £2.20 per litre delivered.
Get a couple of people to split it maybe? I would be up for that.

Unfortunately It's a hazardous substance with stringent licence requirements. I don't believe it's legal to buy and resupply.

I'm a pharmacist so might be able to do that. I know I can buy and supply methylated spirits, I'll check what I can do. A lot of it is to do with supplying safety info and the correct containers.

I tried to read the rules and regulations regarding it but just ended up confusing myself. It is a wonder how I actually passed my final exam, I haven't got a clue

Idnan, we can supply trade specific denatured alcohols(this inudes ethanol). However as pharmacists we would require authorisation by customs and excise. We can only supply to producers and distributors who are too authorised by HM revenue and customs as users. Also we can't supply without holding a copy of that users authorisation.
We can only supply in quantities of 20L at any one time.

Cheers for that mate

It has been a few years since my pre-reg exam and it is amazing how you can forget so much when you don't use what you've learnt. I still want e85 though!

Filled up with Nitro today and found a country road for a blast.

Too early to tell if there is any difference but I did notice the car was running a little warmer.

Ask me next week.

I was comparing it against the normal rather than last week.

Tried it today from an real empty tank. Doesn't feel as explosive. I actually think it felt was worse than vpower. Maybe i'll let it cycle another tank and switch to momentum. It probably a gimmick to replace a heavier mix of ethanol to the product

Filled up with it today. I asked the pump attendant what was special about it. He said it was "V Power with a minor re-brand". He pulled some marketing blurb out from behind the desk and said "it's 99 Octane". I think regular V Power was 98. So something has changed.

So it's basically just a rebrand to get people talking about it. Thats why the marketing blurb is a bit vague and it has done the job so far here.

Like anything that says 'new and improved' it might only be the packaging that is new but they are not going to miss a chance to drum up interest, and why would they?

I would try it but the nearest Shell is a long way away and I have Momentum just down the road which seems to do the job just as well.

No one knows until they test it. Seems odd to rebrand for no reason. Personally I still suspect it is so they can stick more ethanol in it.

I have a 330i from 2006.

In my S2000 "super" fuels made the car much more drive-able. I only once had to fill the S2000 with basic fuel but is changed the car in both running and drive ability.

Would I really notice any difference with the 3.0l 6 pot engine with regards to better MPG or smoothness? I always fill with normal Shell fuel only.

I have a N53 330i and have recently changed back to VPower. There is a definite difference. Car feels much more responsive and there is more eagerness up the rev range and the car can run at optimum horsepower. Worth the small outlay i think.
