Need some advise on my ding! "PICS"
Some jerk was backing up his van and scratched my 335i coupe that merely hit 900miles today!
The damage is not severe as you can see. but there is a visible ding on my quarter panel and some clear coat damage on the driver side door+ quarter panel. The other driver wanted to go through his insurance so I got an estimate from the bmw authorized bodyshop. Total bill came out to be colse to $2,100!! Obivously they have to repaint the whole door and the quarter panel. I seriously don't want to repaint my 3 weeks old baby since its a minor damage and I wanted to get some opinion on the paintless dent removal. Are they any good? Good or Bad Experiences? The other question is, would the AAA insurance send the check directly to me or the bodyshop? I was thinking maybe I can just live with the job done by dent removal guys and keep the remaining balance to pay off some bills? |

They'll send the check to a body shop because they will ask for an estimate from the body shop and then they will make their own estimate.

Sorry to hear man. Did you buy your car or lease it? If it's a lease, do the dent removal thing and touch it up. If you bought it, do it right. $2100 sounds expensive for just the door and the quarter-panel... but maybe the place does amazing work.

I leased it. Maybe, I should consider the dent removal to save some time and trouble? Am I supposed to be compensated from the other driver for getting this done in cheap way?

Maybe have a discussion with AAA insurance. Along the lines of "I'd like to try dent removal/polish in an effort to save some money on the claim. IF I go that route and the results are not acceptable to ME, can we complete the additional repairs?" See if they are willing to take the gamble. It's tough to tell from the photo whether that will polish out or is too deep and needs paint behind the door crease.
Oh, and get their answer IN WRITING |
