New 320d engine coming early 2008

I recently emailed BMW about an engine update to the 320d, like to the one in the 120d. They replied and said the new engine should arrive in Australia in early 2008.

The new engine will have more power yet lower fuel consumption. Also expect a particulate filter to be fitted to the exhaust. Performance should be significantly better than the 323i. A manual transmission is unlikely to be available in Oz.

In my opinion, anyone (including me) considering the 320d should wait until next year.

Wink im lucky!

hi,
im from the uk, and was just browsing your sub-section, and noticed this 320d thread.
i had originally placed an order for a 318d msport. i just got it changed to the new 320d with the 177hp, 350nm torque engine and hopefully will be getting that at the end of this month.
you guys may get it earlier than that 2008, as all cars coming out of germany are now with the new efficienyDynamics programme, so it shouldn't be that long!

Good luck though,

Problem is, E90s sold in Australia are made in South Africa, and the manufacturing there tends to lag behind the German factories. And the engine seems to be detuned for the Australian market AGAIN:mad:, from 130kW to 125kW. And I'm also doubtful if the EfficientDynamics features will come over here.

The 320 is made in South Africa and all the sixes in Germany. In SA, the same facility assembles some Porsche models as well.

I think it has to do with the quality (or lack thereoff) of our fuels.
