Steering lock issue (100k)
Hi guys
I know there have been a thousand topics on the steering lock warning light problem...BUT... I can't seem to find any recent examples of higher mlg and well out of warranty. My car has done 100k and is a 57 plate. BWchiptune deleted the red warning light for me last month but it has re appeared. Everything still works fine. I have seen people getting good will gestures etc but they have all been just out of warranty or low mlg cars! She is booked into Sytner Sunningdale on Thursday but wondering am I wasting my time asking them to do a GWG?? And should just pay for it at an independent garage like BWchiptune? |

I had this issue, but it turned out to actually be the Intellgent Battery Sensor. My Indy ran diagnostics after clearing the lock and that is what it came out to be. Been fine since. Less than £400 all in for diagnostics, parts, labour, and testing for 2 days.
Did Jason read off the error codes for you? Or just clear the steering lock? I wouldn't hold out on good will, and would consider a decent Indy for this work as it can often be actually something else causing the issue. |

57 plate and 100k miles I'd forget any hope of getting any goodwill from BMW.

I had this come up on my car but the fault went all by itself. My car had only done roughly 18k miles at the time. The only thing i can think of that triggered it, was using the spare fob. After i changed back to original fob it went away. Not sure if this was a coincidence.

I had ELV red fault but was working fine. Reset it my self with DIS.
I'm thinking what it cause is every time if you not locked a car but removed key and put back in slot it not releasing ELV for about 2-3 sec and press start it comes as fault. I always wait until I hear lock engage. That's only on my car. Or speare key. |

Not sure if anyone is interested but may be of use to future problems.
Took car into BMW Sytner Sunningdale and it needs a new steering column. They have agreed to pay for the part and I have to pay for the labour, which comes to approx £300. |

I recently had a red warning light ELV and had it cleared by an indy. Since my battery needs replacing too, I'm going to see if that is what may be causing some of the weird things happening.... fingers crossed!
