Low tire pressure warning

Just got a low tire pressure warning on the dash.

Will it indicate which tire is low if I dig into the computer's stored error codes?

I know I can simply check pressure in all 4 tires, but I'm wondering the system will isolate the problem.

Just check your pressure on all 4 wheels. It is safer and good practice anyway to keep an eye on your pressure when temperature starts to drop.

I though it tells you which tire is low in the dash; I had a passenger rear tire with a nail in it and the dash check control showed which tire it was.

My 2008 e90 used to only tell me that I had a low tire pressure and I would have to guess at which tire(s) it was. In 2011, I had the HPFP replaced and had the car software updated (forced to do it, I was having no issues with the car). Ever since I got the software update in 2011... it now tells me exactly which tires (any combination) are low. basically it shows an Image of a red car (top view) and at each corner where the wheels are, it will have an arrow pointing to the wheels which are low.

Chances are that if one tire is low... then the others are pretty darn close to being low. The TPMS triggers a low reading if:
1) The tire pressure reaches 27 PSI or less
2) The tire pressure has changed by 5 psi or more since the car was shut off.

Just remember to check the air pressure that is recommended in the door jam on the drivers door. I like to keep my fronts at 35psi and the rears at 38psi (The car recommends 33psi fronts and 36 psi rears)

Try to get your car software updated for all the modules to the latest software. They will need to keep the car over night but should only charge you for 1 hour of labor. All that is involved is to hook up the car to a stand alone power source and to have the correct software which they load over the OBD2 port. They basically press a couple keys on the computer and just let the computer do the software flash install until it's done... no wrench turning involved (It's just as easy as upgrading your iphone OS). If you do have them update the software... I would also highly recommend having them do other things at the same time which requires you to do any coding for the car (Like when you install a new car battery you have to register the battery to the car, if you are on the original OEM battery... now would be a good time to replace the battery since all the charging algorithm's will be wiped anyways as part of the full car process). This should be done at no additional cost because they are already doing this anyways. So basically you save on the "software/registration" fee/labor cost.

Thx, very helpful.

I'll have to have a closer look at the error icon on the dash. It's possible that there was an arrow pointing at 1 of the tires and I just didn't notice it.
