Are you tuned? If tuned for higher octane fuel you will notice the difference if not then u might just notice an extra mpg or 2

higher octane fuel does not give better mpg. Octane has nothing to do with mpg. Lots of ethanol in the fuel will give you lower mpg, which is why premium fuels may give better mileage as they generally have lower ethanol content than super market fuels.

Have a Procede Tune, but running it day to day on virtually stock boost (10.5psi maximum boost). To be honest 90% of my driving is in city traffic where the average speed is about 20mph, so an extra 10-20bhp is really not going to be felt.

Our cars will auto adapt to higher octane.
Where you have a piggyback tune, the autotuning maps will allow you to run more boost. I use momentum99 as much as possible as its cheaper than vpower and seems to run fine. I do wish we had E85 (85% Ethanol 15% petrol) in the UK, much cheaper than petrol and much higher octane. Some silly power coming out of cars tuned for E50+ mixes! I go to France on Thursday, tempted to try an E30 mix!

Shell Diesel every time and maybe after every 3 fills I put V-Power. It seems to drink the V-Power though compared to normal diesel.

Sorry for dragging up an old post.
I have always felt that with Shell my diesel seems to sound abit louder than if I use Esso.

Don't use tesco momentum in high performance cars. They claim 99 octane but it's just full of chemicals to make that quota.
V power or if worst comes to worst premium unleaded from a proper petrol company not supermarkets. |

I normally use v power but put in a tank of shell fuel saver last time, and am surprised with the results. I feel the car is pulling stronger in low to mid range. Maybe its psychological, i.e. perhaps I'm subconsciously expecting less. Anyone else compared these fuels?

Sainsbury's fuel comes from the same refinery as Shell and Bp. The additives are slightly different but just as good. (In fact they come from one of the big 3 petrol companies)
Sainsbury's margin is slightly lower as they make up the cost on the grocery side hence the couple of P's cheaper. So a Sainsbury's petrol station making 100k on petrol a week, will on average take about the same in groceries hence the lower price. Their Premium is 97ron and is pretty good. They don't advertise purely for the fact is not as high a Ron as Tesco or shell v-power but then as previous said Tesco petrol has a higher ethonal content then Sainsbury's petrol. Shell just sells petrol with a huge marketing budget.

i bought my e90 from a female who is not a car person I switched to BP ultimate and it runs much smoother and gets better mileage too. I find my Harley Streetglide and Boss Mustang do as well. No Shell in my area. JMTCW

They add too it, water it down in more familiar terms. Tbh were not the worst affected, the petrol ain't that bad compared to Europe where it gets thinned out even more. But if you want the best stick away from the supermarket for fuel.

Shell 93 or Sunocco 93
All though I will admit I had to take a short trim last Sunday and had to fill up at a Hess because I was low on gas. I heard their fuel is not exactly top notch. Last edited by Delta0311; 10-18-2013 at 12:41 PM.. |

Diesel works best in my D car I am sure petrol would; nto be good for it.
Ok that is what I want to answer as the smart arse I am. I had a petrol E46 and always ran that on 97-99 and to be honest found tesco was as good as shell, yet 97 from sainsbury was fine, if i had to use 95, it was not as smooth and more important, a slight drop in MPG. The E90 D well whatever I find cheap, yet sainsburys generally as there is one around the corner and love the nectar card All about the MPG these days for me
