E90 Sport Steering wheel to M3 wheel (no paddles?)

Hey everybody

I was wanting to make the switch from my sport wheel to an M3 wheel, but of course, theres the issue of the paddle shifters.. does anyone know if I swap the wheels for one and DONT hook up the shifters, will this cause a fault code? I dont use them often, and truly wouldnt miss them.. Im just curious if anyone has done this and if so, what was the result.

P.S., I know I can get the M3 stiched wheel WITH paddles, but its more expensive and a little harder to find (so far)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong... I believe I read that if you do not hook them back up, you will lose the ability to use "DS" mode with your shifter.
