Transmission oil leak :-(
Well I noticed when putting my winters on that the arse end of the auto transmission was wet
I finger test showed it was clear oil so I'm fairly certain it's gearbox oil. It's booked into Sytner for December 11th and thankfully I have the extended BMW warranty so I'm hoping this will be covered? Any known issues with these gearboxes? Jon

I did read through the warranty and it all seemed covered. Jon

How old is the car and what milege?
from my reserach is quite common for the mecatronics sleave to start leaking - the rubber o ring perishes and causes the leak - but the whole sump needs to be dropped - this will be covered under warranty however ask the dealer if they replace the gearbox oil or re use the old one. because when I had mine chnaged, the ex bmw mech said to me when he worked at a dealer and came across this they would re use the old oil from the gearbox as its very expeinsive (£24 per litre and you need at least 7/8 litres) plus new sump Also sometime the sump does warp due to the heat as it is plastic which can cause leak between the joint hence why it is always reccomended to replace sump each time it is taken off |

Thanks for the heads up on that. I will ask Sytner what their policy is on the oil etc.
