2010 335i Buy-Back Approved

My 335i 2010 w/PPK has been having repeated SES issues, repairs in the last 6 month were as follows:

1. Coils spark plugs changed,
2. Bank1 injectors
3. Cylinder head for crack (smoke test)
4. Bank2 injectors

Due to the above few month ago I started a buyback request and it got approved. I like this car, and I'm torn If I should let go of the car given that last fix seem to hold. However, the uncertainty that the SES will come back especially that the car just went out of warranty is lingering.

Any thoughts are welcomed

Sell it back and buy a CPO...these cars aren't exactly rare.

And what caused your cylinder head to crack, did the car overheat at some point or something?

Price you paid for the car + sales tax + loan interest (if any) - (miles used until the first time the problem occurred)

No reason from the crack. The car is not stressed at all. They only found the hairline crack when they did a smoke test to debug SES. However, that was not the problem since SES came back few days later.

If I were in your shoes, I would definitely proceed with the buy-back. You would save money with future maintenance and have the option of getting a new car.

The only thing you would really miss out is the hydraulic steering. That's the only thing I would not want to part with.

My advice would be to go through with the buy-back and get into another 335i that hopefully has fewer issues.

Cylinder head or cylinder head COVER (aka valve cover)? I've seen quite a few of the latter cracking lately on N54s.

I checked the service papers, your hunch is right. It's the head-cover.

If it's in fact a valve "cover" that was cracked, it's really no big deal. If anything, that means you have a new valve cover gasket saving you potentially 1k on a likely future repair that you'd have to do anyways! Any other n54 you get will probably have all the same issues you've had and then then some.

Huh? The diesels have their share of problems, too, and aren't nearly as fun as a modded 335i.

Figured as much. Anyway, if someone offered to refund my entire purchase price (including interest) on a car that's now out of warranty, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Why not? It's hard to beat that deal.

I don't see what's so crazy here that requires a buy back?? I think a fair majority of people have had plugs, injectors and a valve cover replaced within 50k miles

My 335d is my daily driver, and my FBO with meth 135 is a weekend fun car. Its a tough choice on which to drive when the weather is nice

I hear ya. No doubt the torque of a 335d is fun. I just don't think I could own one for various reasons. Mainly the SCR system to meet US emissions that I'm not fond of. I really hate urea.

Honestly, I didn't expect them to approve it. I was shooting for an extended warranty at the most.
