Winter problems... HELP, advice needed!
Finally put on my winter setup, but one wheel/tire isn't holding air (I hear it spray out when the car rolls). Not sure if it's the tire, or wheel.
Tire Rack is sold out of my 17X8 5-120 ET30 RIAL SALERNO's, so if the rim needs replacing what can I do? All the other wheels that size have different offsets, weights, etc., and I checked 150miles locally and can't find anyone selling that specific wheel. Also, how bad would it be to leave the 17" winter wheels/tires on the rear, while leaving my 18" summers on in the front? (I'm not sure how to play it without having to buy multiple new wheels/tires.) Thanks in advance... kinda stuck here.

you need to determine where the air is coming out from. I have a feeling it may be valve stem that is bad. With the wheel off, fill the tire back up. Put some soap water in and around the valve stem. See if you there are bubbles.

Ahh, I didn't even think of the valve stem. Wouldn't that be a slow leak? My tire won't hold air at all. I used a portable compressor, and it wouldn't get above 10psi.

BTW, I have a brand new 17x Rial Salerno wheel that I bought from another forum member to use as a spare. It is currently mounted with RFT dunlop Winter M3 RFT. If you really need a new rim, then PM me, but my guess is that you probably have a damaged valve stem or tire. Good luck. |

After using a compressor, I tried driving 5mph and I could hear lour bursts of air spraying intermittently as the tire rolled. Would the valve be a continuous leaking air sound since it's on the side?

Dude, since it's already off the car, find someone with a large compressor that can fill the tire and spray the d@mn thing down with some soapy water and find the leak! It's not rocket science...especially if it's leaking out that fast you probably won't even need soap or water; you'll probably just be able to hear it.

+1 for finding the leak with soapy water. That's going to be the only way to know for sure what's wrong with the tire, if the wheel is not bent/cracked.

After the wheel came off, it had two bends on the inside of the rim.
TireRack showed the wheels (Rial Salerno) as out of stock for the season! But I called to make sure, and they had 2 available across the country. $119 for the wheel, $60! for shipping (one week), plus tax... so around $200. Then I looked around locally at repair shops (since it wasn't cracked or damaged too badly). Was quoted $90 for the repair, with a 24 hour turn around, so I went with that (winter wheel, only use it 3 months a year).

Glad that you were able to figure out what the main issue was. Repairing it was definitely a more cost effective option, especially considering the down time.

make sure the bead is set between the tire and rim. iF the tire is not mounted flush against the rim which it sounds like from your description it will not hold air past 5psi---

Thanks again to everyone for the advice & input!
As much as I love my E92, it can be a pain in the ass at times, yet this forum always comes through.
