How to??

G'day,

Might be a stupid question but, how do you put a DCT in neutral with the engine off so you can roll the car forward?
Today I parked short in the garage & wanted to push the car forward just a little rather than starting the car again & realised I didn't know how

You can't. You have to start the car then place it in N then turn it off. You have about 20 minutes IIRC before it automatically pops back into P.

You can do it...I had an experience with a 135i DCT that that mechtronic unit died with under 100kms on the clock. It died with the car halfway hanging out of my driveway on the road. The towey was on the phone to bmw assist for at least an hour. If you pop the trim off the gear lever there is a socket (it was red from memory) in which to pop a tool from the toolkit (allen key-like from memory) and twist, this neutralises the tranny with no key and keeps it disengaged so you can tow or push your car around your garage til u get bored. The towey said he'd done it on an X6 before as well but the X6 access was from under the car. Assume the 3 series would be similar deal to the 1 series though given the amount of common parts....

happy rollin'

Thanks youraveragepunter.
I tried the other suggestion of switching the car off whilst in neutral but as soon as I switched the car off it pops in to neutral immediately.
