320d intercooler upgrade

Is it worth upgrading the 320d intercooler to a 330d one I believe they arise different and can be picked up quite cheaply if it makes a bit more power on my remapped 320d

don't know if it will fit without modifications. You could go for the IC from the performance power kit.

that is just a 330D IC, just like the Alpina D3 runs the 330D IC

not saying its a straight fit (cant see why not?) but those OEM upgrades use that cooler.

They are different part numbers, so don't know if it's the same.
Anyway, you'll get no power gain with IC alone.

With a remap you may see 5-10bhp

With a bigger intercooler you can keep intake temps lower so you wont suffer heat soak. Also lower intake temps = lower egt's which can only be good in the long run

If you live in a hot climate area that would make sense, otherwise ...
You can get the 5-10hp with a remap and the stock IC with no problem.

I ment an uprate intercooler coupled with a remap may give gains of 5-10bhp ontop of the remap.

You can still heat soak a mapped car in the UK

heat soak doesnt really come into it for normal car tbh.

the biggest advantage of a larger cooler is more surface area for cooling the inlet charge, colder air = denser air which is effectively shoving more air down the engines throat.

more air = more fuel = more power

Standard no

Remapped i would say it definately comes into play

The alpina uses a 330d intercooler for a reason

Cars currently remapped but don't nod getting it custom mapped again with bigger intercooler on,going by what the car feels like in winter to summer I'd say it should be a beneficial difference!

You don't need to get a custom remap for the intercooler. It will be beneficial on the current map!

Have a look on realoem for the part number of IC for the power performance pack> That is far larger and fits as straight swap

as above, the performance power pack just uses a 330D intercooler, dont go paying over the odds for a "performance" part from BMW...
