Oil cooler? Which are people running?
As above, looking to purchase an additional oil cooler for my car and wondering what people's opinions are on which is best?
Thanks |

I've been looking into this on/off for a while. Short answer is there doesn't seem to be any easily available and reliable third party option.
The BMW performance kit has an additional water cooler, but you have to buy the whole kit which is about £800+vat and than labour/coding by BMW which bring the total to close £2k all in. Which is just too much to spend, especially when my car will never ever visit the track. |

Been debating the need for an oil cooler for a while now, last night went for a drive in the car (post water pump fix) and despite it been only 4 degrees and windy had the oil temp nearly at 130 degrees within a few miles of 'spirited' driving...and that's running the turbos at 10.5 PSI maximum boost....
So I've just put in an order for the single ER Sports cooler (couldn't justify the extra $700 for the dual coolers since I don't track the car)....It's got very good reviews but nearly all from the US side, looking at install instructions should fit RHD cars with no problems...its now just a long wait for delivery/customs clearance and finally fitting. But cannot wait Cheers to the guys pointing me to the ER cooler, hadn't realised it existed till now. Last edited by gangzoom; 02-16-2014 at 09:03 AM.. |

I wouldn't tbh. Look at Alpine_B3_Lux's review on it.
ER is the only one I would buy off the shelf. However I'm buying an RB Turbo takeoff plate, 25 row core, in line thermostat and building my own kit. Only issue is with the shrouding but I should be able to do something about that. |

I nearly ordered one about 8 months ago, but after talking to my local garage decided not to go ahead with it....cutting around the radiator and sticking it in front of the radiator has to hamper the cooling ability of the radiator. Plus have recently read Alpine_B3_Lux's review on it, and clearly its not all that reliable.
The ER cooler however does seem to be a reliable/affordable solution....will find out soon enough |
