Jet black detailing question
Whats up
This year I decided to fully detail my car. I ordered clay bars, QD, Menzerna Intensive Polish, Klasse ALL-IN-ONE, Klasse High Gloss SG, and S100 paste wax on amazon and had a question regarding the lake county foam pads. If I plan on using a PC what colors/types (hydrotech, hybrid, waffle, spot buff, or flat) of pads should I order? And how many if I plan on detailing two cars, both have dark colors. Also Ive read that jet black is a difficult paint to detail and are all the products I will be using safe for that type of paint? Thanks ![]() |

All those are safe for your paint. As far as Lake County pads I'd get orange for light cutting (IP), white for polishing (AIO), and I use a gray/black for SG/wax. Just get 2 of each and you should be good for a while
I use the CCS pads btw but I picked up one of their foam wool pads for cutting. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, hopefully this weekend. |

Jet black is a difficult paint to detail because it is a "soft" paint. This makes it more finicky in the way the polish will finish out.
The orange pad should suffice to give you the necessary cut. I use the hydrotech pads myself and like them! Try a test spot on the rear passenger Fender and see how it finishes with a pad and polish. See if it is enough to get the desired result. Soft paints usually don't need as much cut. If its not enough then up the aggressiveness of the pad and polish until you get the desired result. Best of luck and don't be scared! ![]() |

do you have photos of your car in the sunlight showing some of your imperfections. you seem to have a bunch of products but not sure the ones that will assure you some great results.

The product selections seems fine but again....it is hard to determine if they will get the job done without seeing the vehicle in its current condition. Menzerna IP 2000 is really a medium polish while Klasse AIO is essentially a cleaner wax and SG is the sealant. With proper techniques, you should be able to take out defects up to 2000 grits. You will need a true compound to be more aggressive.
I would suggest you look into the Griot's Garage DA instead of the PC. The GG DA has more power and this comes in handy for the really nasty stuff. The trick in getting the most from any DA (except a force rotation machine) is a 5" backing plate to be use with 5.25 in - 5.5 in low profile pads. This combo will give you more power since smaller/thinner pad equate to less rotational mass. I have in my arsenal a huge variety of pads and here are my current favorites (subject to change ![]() Flex 3401- LC Hybrids, Buff & Shine Microfibers. Rupes 21 - Rupes foam and Microfibers PC, GG - LC flat pads and LC microfibers
