Hi I'm earth have we met?
I wasn't sure if COBB supports my n55 I sent them an email but no response yet. I got the generic reply 3-5 business days wait. AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT. My production month was 02/11 so I should be good money right?
I'm leaning towards PTF as I hear they are the best. As far as hardware goes I'm leaning towards VRSF because they have as the kids say crack prices: Catless DP & 7" FMIC will be my first act.From my understanding those will get me the most gains. It is my understanding that if I get a catless DP the only thing I will need is a COBB AP that by itself will hide any codes the car would normally through during emissions test. Is this correct? My question is other things that it would make sense to do while I'm there? *Charge pipe? *Diverter valves? *Is there some kind of BOV limitation for the n55? I feel like I read that somewhere. If not can someone please explain all these options for the charge pipe to me on the vr-speed page? http://www.vr-speed.com/catalogsearc...t/?cat=0&q=n55 I've got minimal DIY time FYI and would rather measure twice and cut once than pay say double labor. Speaking of recommended shops in MA? I'm also contemplating VRSF catback exhaust but it's not a priority for me right now as I am thinking it will be my second act. My first act will likely be FMIC and the aforementioned. Sorry I threw up all over this thing. Any help and input is appreciated. |

Unless I missed some new information, I don't think there is any way to fix the SES light with a catless DP for the n55 yet. I heard some people were still passing emissions though.

^Same disclaimer as above. I think only the JB4 will clear the SES light.

That's a shame I was hoping to go COBB. I think I remember seeing a temporary fix for it. I'll do some digging. Your thoughts on doing diverter valves and BOV while I'm under there?

Cobb clears the SES light for emissions if you use their Stage 2 tunes. Stage 1 does not. You can also load the Stage 1 map into Accesstuner, toggle off the SES for emissions, and then save it as a custom map.
If your emissions is like Texas, you can fail up to 3 codes. After 3 you fail inspection. The JB4 keeps 5 sensors in a Not Ready state (Not Ready and Failed are both considered a No Pass). I'm not sure why JB4 keeps 5 sensors in Not Ready, even if they do not need to be, but it does. Cobb keeps exactly 3 sensors in Not Ready state last I checked, so I can pass emissions here as long as I go to a shop that doesn't sniff test (most shops in Texas...only a few smaller cities require sniff test). If you're that, worried find yourself a hole in the wall shop. If inspection is $20 offer to pay $30 in cash, and have a 6 pack handy Or ask around in your area - just don't make it too blunt on the public boards because you don't want a shop getting in trouble. Sidenote: I'm not sure if Cobb changed anything in their latest Stage 2 map updates. You can always go to AutoZone and hook up one of their code readers for free. It'll tell you the state of all your sensors (Ready, Not Ready, Failed). I think there are a couple codes that inspection machines reads that most AutoZone can't read, but those are typically never touched by chips/flash tunes.

Any particular reason? What's the difference between the n54 and n55 that make them necessary on the n54? Not busting your balls just want to be informed.

completely different turbo setup. N55 is a single turbo, N54 is a twin turbo. N55 uses an electronic DV, not pneumatic. The only time a change has been needed so far is with the Vargas Stage II turbo.

There are different types of inspections that could be done. If it is a visual inspection(and the tech does his job) there is no way to pass. An OBD2 test would require a DP fix because the AP simply disables the test procedure that triggers the CEL and would not pass due to a "Not ready" result. The N55 uses a diverter valve mounted directly to the compressor housing of the turbo so a BOV is a no go. |
