for those of us who like to modify it serves as an incredibly resourceful tool! if you throw a CEL you can see what is going on BEFORE taking it in. i avoid the dealer at all costs - i don't trust any one working on my car really.

also - it can be used for data logging!

These devices do more than clear codes. Most of my VAG-COM work was actually recoding seat belt chimes and autolocking in Touaregs.

Other examples are recoding for a retrofitted CD player, MOST adapter, or Bluetooth module. Dealers often charge big bucks for recoding or refuse to even do it unless you have them install the parts, too.

BIM-COM?

Ross-Tech's BIM-COM never came up for sale, but now I've noticed something new...it seems very similar: http://www.obdtester.com/bimcom
I heard some good experience with this developer. Maybe it will be interesting. What you think?

I don't see anything there to pursued me over the BT tool. I sold my VAG-COM cable that was laying around to get the BT cable (went from VAG 2.0T FSI to N54) and I must say the VAG-COM is better in almost every way (except logging sample rate but it does more and the software interface is better) BUT I looked at every screen shot and read every function on that page and didn't see anything persuasive. The only real knock on the BT cable is you need to buy the expensive one to do coding. Then the flash tuning developed on the BT tool really puts its over the top. I flashed my tune with it, I log with it, I read and clear codes with it, I can do activations with it. Only thing I can't do is code.

Plug much. Prety sure between AutoEnginiuity, Bavarian Technic, INPA and all the others I haven't tried or heard of that the market is pretty covered.
