DCT and meth?
hey guys, just had a quick question that wasn't fully covered in searching the web. Getting used to the power of fbo... so im very tempted to go down that meth road to kick me over the 400whp mark, the IAT drops would be awesome too since hawaii is pretty hot year round. I know meth comes with the massive torque curve output so i was wondering if the DCT trans was able to handle it reliably (for years). Im already losing traction in 2nd gear sometimes, will LSD be needed as well or will it just be a luxury addon (I dont track). Also, is there a cheaper meth kit available for cobb? The hsf is nice but i dont want to spend a grand just for meth..
Anyways, hoping there are some DCT meth users out there willing to chime in. Basically, Dont want the power if my car cant handle it reliably. ![]() Last edited by 335is808; 04-17-2014 at 01:40 AM.. |

You'll be fine with meth but as far as kits go, Aquamist is your best option and it's worth it!
You won't need a LSD (even though it's the best upgrade from what people say) but you'll definitely need better tires. Nitto 555R would be a good choice for daily. |

no e85 or 93 octane in hawaii sadly... meth is the only option for me but im sketchy at the strain of the massive amount of torque might put on the tranny.. is your IS meth tuned?

Driving FBO + RB's for more then 50k km's with a DCT.
Meth or e85 mixes... The clutches will wear faster, further no issues besides regular maintenance, propper warming up the oil makes a big difference. Also keep the box in sport mode when beating it up, less slippage.

The DCT trans does seem to hold up pretty well, even with E85 or Ethanol. Of course, with a ton of power you always increases the wear on components. Fortunately, just because you are running methanol it doesn't mean that you have to push the power to the limit. Through tuning you can always keep the torque down low and emphasize the power higher in the rev range which makes life easier on the trans.

The key is when you want to go WOT make sure to have Sport enabled. Also, after enabling Sport down shift before going WOT. Stay away from D-Mode or S-Mode for WOT |
