poor timing numbers and pulled timing events, 19psi boost spike
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on why my timing numbers are so low and why I get so many timing corrections and such a high boost spike during a run. I also seem to be getting fairly consistent throttle closure that looks like it's tied to overboost. Any help would be much appreciated!
http://www.datazap.me/u/getinline/ot...zoom=1127-1258 I'm running DCI, FMIC, OTS Vishnu v1.5 stage 1 map, Chevron 94 Spark plugs: stock bosch with 10,000 km Fuel pump: 10000km on new pump Injectors 3 new injectors have 10000km and the other bank has 30000km Coils: all stock except for #3, just replaced it due to misfires walnut shell blasting done 7000km ago I have had this problem for years, always running poor timing numbers but just never get the time to delve into it enough to solve it. One theory I have is a faulty knock sensor, but that's just a guess since my timing numbers never improve much, even after getting new injectors and plugs. Here is another log with less throttle closure but still plenty of timing retard events and poor timing numbers.

Not at wedge's map but at suggesting it's a map issue. That map with intercooler upgrade like he has should be peaking at 12 degrees of advance at redline all day long on regular 93 octane not 3. NO tune or map is going to fix the issue (save one with horrible timing advance). I would throw race gas at it to see what happens. Could rule in or out octane |

Yes I understand, and that's what I'm trying to figure out, what is fundamentally wrong with my car to cause those poor timing numbers with a Conservative off the shelf map?

Anyone have any ideas on what can be causing timing numbers this bad? I'm running Chevron 94, which may not be great, but could it be this bad???
I know what can cause misfires but I can't figure out what can cause timing numbers like this other than low octane, high A/F ratio, or defective knock sensors? |

Well I have an update. I did some searching and found a great thread on the Nissan GT-R forum about Vancouver, BC Chevron 94 (with no ethanol) gasoline.
http://www.gtrlife.com/forums/topic/...need-feedback/ Apparently it sends a number of stock GT-R's into safe mode and produces poor timing numbers even compared with Chevron 91 (with 10% ethanol), and this is based on a number of dyno and logging sessions. So it looks like Shiv may be right after all and explains why my car responds so well to methanol. I took my WW meth kit out last year and have a nice trunk mount tank waiting for installation. I wanted to wait to try and resolve my poor timing numbers before reinstalling my meth kit but it looks like it might be time to do that now. |

True, but I don't track my car so I doubt my IATs could ever get that high. I'm also not going to run 100% meth, but something between 50-75% meth, to reduce the fire risk. That plus a trunk tank and a flow sensor failsafe is safe enough for me.

Well, in case anyone is interested I resolved my timing problem thanks to great information on the Nissan GTR forum about the poor quality of Chevron 94 in Vancouver (Chevron 94 thread).
I added about 2 liters of Bioflame ethanol (Bio Flame Ethanol) to 1/2 tank of Chevron 94 and voila, a big timing improvement....there is still one timing retard event and one throttle closure but overall it is a noticeable improvement! OFT Vishnu 1.5 stage 0 map - 1/2 tank Chevron 94 with 2l BioFlame ethanol added Looks like I'll need to go back to Meth spraying from my new trunk mount tank to maintain respectable timing numbers in Vancouver. |
