Blackout grille - paint or plasti-dip?
I just bought a new set of grilles for my '08 Montego Blue E90. I plan on going black with these and keeping a stock set.
Reading the DIY FAQ, they refer to painting. I plan on dipping my stock wheels for winter use and had a thought, why not just use the plasti-dip on the grille as well? Thoughts? Pros/cons of each?

I've had my car for 16 months and the plastidip hasn't come off. Make sure you heat the can in some warm sink water before you spray so the outcome will be smoother. Also don't be afraid to lay it on thick.

Plasti dip is tricky. If you do it right it will look nice and last a while. If you don't, it'll look cheap and I'm sure you've seen a few plasti dip jobs that look like shit. One other warning is that if you plan on speeding, that plasti dip can rip right off. A friend of mine plasti dipped some aftermarket wheels on his gti and was speeding on a highway a few months after that and the plasti dip started flying all over the road. He was doing around 100 but I know he had plenty of coats on the wheels. The way I see it, more air flow will come in direct contact with the grilles compared to the wheels so if you don't wanna deal with that problem, just paint them. Then again, to each his own.

I had plastidip for 9 months and through a pretty brutal winter. Held up fine, but I ended up paining grills, mirror caps, and diffusor gloss black because it looks nicer.

I've done both. I just bought a straight set of 189 18" to upgrade from,my 161 17". Straight but after cleaning and sanding looked kinda junky. This is a nice fix until I respray a Wurth OEM Silver paint for good
