ABS / Brake / Tyre Warning lights.. Bugger.
So I turned on my car today and got the dreaded trifecta ABS lights.
Immediately thougt it'd be a dirty wheel speed sensor, but read the codes anyway to be sure. 5DF0 - Pump unit faulty 5DF1 - Pump unit plug faulty Piss. There was also a wheel speed sensor one, although not currently present but I cleared the codes before checking what that one actually was. The other two remain. So my initial thoughts are that this is going to be a dreaded hydro unit replacement. £2000 or so apparently. I have looked at ecutesting.com though and they claim to be able to rebuild the unit for £195+ vat. Has anyone else had this, used them or replaced the unit themselves? Sad face. Especially as I'm in france at the mo!

Yours is an internal fault seen the description/ciders before rues actually street hydro unit internal but the word unit plug tells me all I need to know, but ECU Testing can easily sort it out, usually cars off the road for around a week, arrange your courier which is what we do get it to them and usually with 24/36 hours they'll start work on it I usually call them 3-4 days after the units been sent off(don't fur get you need to fill in the on line form) but we've sent several to them everyone bar one has been a success.
And as you know it's adman sight cheaper than the £1749 or whatever plus VAT |

Sorry to hear that mate, especially when you are in france.
I think a Guy Turby posted that ECU testing could not repair his. Another chap stated that ECU testing cannot repair it and would not release the ECU. That forum member had to fork out £95 just for testing fees. I hope you get it resolved soon.

I had mine sent off to ECU testing from my Z4, I had identical codes. They managed to repair it. My car was off the road for about a week.
Not sure where you are based. But I took mine to Darren Wood in Manchester |

Cheers Steve & Sam.
That thread reads to me to me like he sent his to BBA Reman and they couldn't fix it but still wanted 100 notes to return it. He then had it fixed properly by ecu testing. Ecu testing claim that they refund all costs other the shipping if they can't fix it. If thy test it and it's not actually broken, then they charge a nominal testing fee. Here's hoping. Steve, out of interest, what does your place charge roughly for the removal / re installation of the unit? Last edited by Frobius; 06-20-2014 at 04:31 PM.. |

Remove re install 2.2 hours inc brake fluid change and of course coding if and when required labour rate officially(wink wink) £65+VAT per hour. On makkann's comments it's true not all units can be repaired we've been lucky with the very low rate of non repairable units I've heard other garages with more non repairable items than they'd like and of course they lose faith. Worth mentioning also is that the 6 cylinder out fits also have a repair kit, it's actually not widely touted about and again it's not exactly cheap at around £875+VAT, but it's cheaper than the £1700+ for the full unit. |

I think I'll be giving you a bell when I get back then. Does the car just get left with you until the hydro comes back? I take it it's not drivable.

I had this done twice in past. According to errors above I repaired dsc unit myself for a first time. Successfully for a few months
![]() EcuTesting says that I have to replace a hydraulic unit with pump as is no possible to fix. I bought a second hand dsc unit with exactly same part's number. Coding, bleeding and calibrating took me about 4 hour. Cheers |

EcuTesting does't charge me a fee for test without repair. Just postage back. It is worth to check them first. Alternatively You may ask local dealer for all possible replaceable numbers of Your dsc unit. Also check eBay if anyone has a same or just hydraulic part with pump without a expensive module, as they are easy to swap over.
Your unit has a connection fault. It can be in two places. First between a motor pump and aluminium hydraulic block, two pins can be corroded or sticky. Second possibility is on top of a motor pump, simply a brushes. Anyway to take them apart without any damage is risky job but possible. Good luck |

Strangely the lights have gone off a few times today. Of course, they're back on now but I'm wondering if it's intermittent, might it be something I could tackle myself?
