19" BBS CH

18" is the top picture, 19" bottom. Hard to see the difference in the pictures but the 19" look way better in person. Got stainless lines in today to install next week, rear trunk spoiler installed, springs here next week!

wow... really nice choice. So could you tell any difference between the 18s and 19s when it comes to handling and drivabiliy ? I had some pretty light weight 19s on my car then I moved to similar weighted 18s, and I prefer the 18" from a performance standpoint. But it seems like the E90 might be geared towards using 19s, any thoughts / opinions ?

WOw, excellent taste. Those wheels wear well on the black sedan. BBS are also top quality. I wish hamann would get wheels made by BBS sometimes, they have nice design and quality.

Looks sweet! I can definitely tell the difference... the 19's just fit the proportion of the E90 better.

I love BBS CH's, excellent choice. Did you go with OE trunk spoiler? What type of springs?

I really can't tell much of a difference in these pic's. There does seem to be more of a gap now between the wheel and the arch than with the 18's, especially in the front. Was the 2nd picture taken immediately after you installed the wheels? Did the suspension have time to settle?

The 19" picture was taken after it was dropped on the ground - did not settle. I admit, the lighting wasn't great either to show the difference. Pretty tricky to do with the same style wheel. In person, they are great!

As far as handling, it is tough. I went with a different tire this time, so that is part of it. Definitely still handles well. The bridge seams and rough roads were not as pronounced as I feared. I never had bending issues even with some super rough holes with the 18" CH I have been running on the E36, so I expect similar on the 19" even with minimal tire protection.

Stock springs right now, but they are next on the list...

No, just a complete car to do the design work and learn a lot on. Some series run more stock cars, but for World Challenge, it is cheaper to buy parts instead of a car. We will start with either a Motorsport chassis or a bare shell with no cage and add the parts we need to use.

Are either of the tires (18" or 19") runflats. If they aren't maybe you can answer the question regarding the E90's suspension designed around runflats.

18s were, 19s are not - not available in runflat yet. As far as being designed around a runflat, I am not really sure what that means - I have not had a lot of time for reading reviews/etc recently. The car is definitely stiffer on runflats and even on the 30 series on the 19, the ride is very nice.

I assume what they mean by being built around the runflats is the geometry and the way the car treats the extremely stiff sidewalls. I expect we will see a lot of this when we get the suspension analyzed and get to play with camber curves. Not something you can really feel with street tires on public roads though I think.

Please share any empirical results you guys get on this issue. I think it will dispel a lot of the fear going around that running regular non-runflat tires will somehow upset the handling of the car (which I think is more marketing than anything else).

Definitely no adverse effect. The car still handles great. As I have pushed it harder, there is some understeer when you load up the front tires, but that is expected with the weight of the car and the stock suspension.

Awesome thanks James. You guys heard it straight from a E90 tuner... switching to non runflat tires has had no adverse effects on handling.
