First? 335is clutch on 335xi
Skip to the bottom if you don't like story time.
Long Story:Just picked up a 335xi for the gf. Clutch had a very bad slip and needed to replace it immediately. Even though the labor is expensive I didn't want to get her a 4/6 puck to start with lol. So as an OEM upgrade saw that the 335is clutch worked with the i models, but I hadn't heard of anyone trying to fit it on the xi. Wasn't sure why it wouldn't work after looking at each part individually, but ECS told me it wouldn't work citing BMW specifically told them it would not work. (I think they've since updated the application list) The only thing I was truly concerned about was the input shaft as there were different part numbers. Tried it anyway and it went on fine. I know several others out there were wondering the same, but I can confirm it works with no install issues. Short Story It works. |

how many miles
How many miles do you have on your 335xi with the 335is clutch. I just had mine installed and there is a not nice sound coming when I let out the clutch. I had a local indy shop do it. Only makes the sound when in gear and the clutch partially out. I got a 335is clutch... and was told it was direct bolt in. Meaning we used all the 335is parts, Throw out bearing, and a new luk flywheel.
Now there are a lot of things that perhaps the tech messed up. Also I find it hard to understand that its only does with clutch is just starting to put torque to the gear box. If there was a fitment issue it would be all the time. Just want to confirm that your not having this issue. Noise is a rattle with a rotational rubbing sound. They plan to look at it tomorrow. But this is going to be an expensive mess up if the 335is clutch does not truly fit. I could by crying wolf so i will wait till they take a look at it. Mine is a 2008 335xi.. |

Sub'd. Interesting I didn't see this thread before. A lot of people were wondering whether the 335is/550i clutch worked on an XI, myself included.

I say pilot bearing
I am almost sure the issue is the Pilot bearing. I think it may have come out with the old fly wheel or got chewed up and they did not install a new one. I did not provide one but they should have caught this.
They are Pulling it today to check it out. as once clutch is engaged there is no noise. Does not make the noise in neutral with clutch down I had similar issue with a bad pilot bearing before. Just hope it did not mess up the flywheel or the output shaft. Will update when I hear from them tomorrow. |

I was right. They did not change the Pilot Bearing. They had to R+R again but did not charge me as they should have seen that Pilot bearing should be changed with clutch. Have not driven it hard yet. Cant wait to get 5 Gall Of E85 back in the tank.. was not running with a bad clutch.
MIght have to take it out to Drag strip next week. So YES 335is 550 clutch will work in a 335xi |
