2007 E90 335i.... all the upgrades + JB4. Friday night I got the water pump light. Yay for 100k milestone. I had it towed home. The battery was dead from me sitting and waiting on the tow company for 2 hours, trying to keep my phone charged. It was 2am. We unloaded it off the truck and I put my battery charger on it, drove it into the garage and left it until Saturday night (not on the charger).

Tried to start it and battery was dead. Put it back on the charger. Now I instantly get the RED steering wheel lock error and cannot start the car. I've charged the battery. Tried using different key. Pulled key in/out several times. Left battery fully unplugged from car (attempting to reset) for overnight. Nothing, steering wheel is still locked and can't start the car.

I don't know what else to do? To me its obviously related to the battery dying/low voltage. I never got the steering wheel lock error (yellow or red) prior to this. If I can't get it started I'll have to have a tow truck pull my car ass-end out of my garage and up on the truck. Can't turn the steering wheel though so.... that may be difficult.

Battery is genuine BMW. Was changed by the dealer about a year ago...

Help?

Email Wedge Performance from that thread, he should be able to guide you in that right direction.

find someone with a BT or INPA cable and talk to Tiago he should be able to get you a script to run and it will unlock the steering column. he helped me out, i had a buddy do it. Now im so scared my battery will die and it will happen again i just keep my car on "life support" aka bmw smart charger everytime i park the car. even over night. doesnt matter my shit will NEVER die again. I will find the draw on my battery when i get back from this deployment then ill see if i can do without it but the smart charger does a good job of not overcharging and its a .5 amp trickle

I got it fixed though... thanks to Ken Atkinson @ wedge performance I was able to get the scripts from the above mentioned thread to run. I also bought a K+D CAN cable off Amazon for $28. Woot!

and I have Jan 2007 build date. Tools32 (comes with INPA) is free and all you have to do is Launch ToolSet32 and click File/Load. Select CAS.PRG and run commands "steuern_elvcounter_cas_loeschen" and "steuern_elvcounter_elv_loeschen".

my car 2007 also..

same issue but not at the same moment like you , water pump is not link with your batery --> it is hazard!

mee fisrt i've got a batery problem voltage too less , and pb with steering lock ... i've got a BT PRO cable and with a script you can reinit CAS default and clear code after replace batery

3 monts after i've got the water pump failed so i've replaced it myself and thermostat..

now no pb all works fine properly, i've just do 3000km during my holiday
